Hi, I’m Tracy McElfresh. My mom says I’m a 13th multicultural generation seamstress on her side of the family. My mother and grandmother were born in Puerto Rico and mom’s belief in buying nothing new as a child was the creative gift I am so proud of.
I teach group sewing classes at Rosewood Art Center, am currently adjusting to being the President of the Kettering Arts Council, I facilitate a large group, The Dayton Garment Meet Up group where we hold swaps and get sewcial. I also work out of my Rosewood Art Center studio proving the public with alterations.
I love to design dresses and swimwear for fun in my spare time. Besides sewing I love to workout everyday (I’m late for the gym right now), hang out with friends at the pool, roller skate, hola hoop, sing, dance and study fashion history.
My current obsession is making garments that fit using flat drafted pattern blocks.
My friends nicknamed me Turbo, some times T-dog or I’ll answer to just T.

Here’s another absolutely amazing memory gift. These are t-shirt pillows made from a client and friend’s late father. They all loved to camp together and it was fitting for me to make pillows out of their Dad’s favorite t-shirts for their camper.
These pillows are finished at 16”x16”, stuffed and fully made, interfacing, a super secret sewing supply used to stabilize the knit into a woven, is added to give the pillows structure and a professional look. I’m slowing down and making @truebias #Riley classing overalls for the next three weeks. I’m lining mine with Buffalo plaid for the bottoms.

It’s button day, 5 large totes of them! 🤯 I sort them on a dish towel to watch for needles, pins and razor blades others have left behind.
My personal rules on what’s worth saving, all red buttons, silver and gold, any that have multiples and are already organized, any buttons made out of sea shells, any really large buttons or funky buttons, and any bright colored buttons. The rest go in the donation bin. I’ve given away 3 jars and now a large ziplock to date. taken in Tracy's Sewing Studio LLC by @tracysews

Pattern reading and layout is Tracy’s favorite. Students learn the history of pattern sizing, how to take measurements, how to read a sewing pattern, popular symbols, tips on buying patterns and much more. As a special bonus, there is an extra hour for this class to draft a simple A-line skirt pattern. Students should bring a notepad, pen or pencil, and a tape measure.
