A quick breakdown of a few trades that I took today, 12/30, on #SPX & #NQ futures. Overall bearish on the day, BUT the opportunities for upside & downside were there if you waited for your levels.

I love it when a plan works. I went light on size today because we are in a holiday week where volume isn’t really present like on regular weeks. Also, after a big move, the next day is either a continuation or consolidation before the next move.

Nonetheless, I still managed to make some profit trading SPX today. 🙌🏼

Quick breakdown of my #SPX trade from earlier today during the 🎅🏻 rally.

The key point to take away from this post is that the more confluences on the chart (charts if you are trading ES, SPY, SPX, QQQ, NQ), then the better that your chances will be that the trade will work out.

There are a ton of strategies out there. Find the one/ones that work for you, and master it/them. Also, be sure to identity your risk before your entry in case things don’t go your way. Better to lose $100 than $1000.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and best of luck to everyone in 2025! 🙌🏼

Took some trades on futures today, which I won’t recap on this post, but I will recap the #SPX trade because there’s some stuff to learn.

The market had been selling off most of the day when I took advantage of this trade. I waited for the trend to break to the upside first (big green candle), and then I took the opportunity to jump in on puts because well… the trend is your friend. Therefore, when there’s a counter move of that trend, you get in to ride it back to the side of the trend. I was a little early getting into puts, so I was in drawdown for a little while, but when I saw it moving to my level between 5465-70, I added more because I trusted my thesis.

The first time a trend is broken, the likelihood of that counter move being “attacked” (by shorts in this case) is rather high. Especially on a day like today where the momentum was extremely bearish.

Oh and I did leave a lot on the table because we ended up going a lot lower, but I’m OK with what I got from the trade for the few minutes I was in it.

I took 4 trades today. 3 green & one small red, which there’s nothing to learn from. I got out because I wasn’t confident with the trade, so I lost $5 on it (+ commissions 😐).

BUT the other 3 trades, there is something to learn from...

1st trade came from the 5474 level on SPX, where I took 5495 calls for a nice profit. SPY was at VWAP & at the 50% fib retracement, so that gave me the confidence to take the trade.

2nd trade came from the 5467 level. I waited for the retest of the 5467 level after SPX went through it around 1 PM. I took 5455 puts, and those paid off, as well.

3rd trade came from the 2nd retest of the same 5467 level. I took 5465 puts, and I probably should have held the contracts, but I didn’t have time to babysit the trade, so I took what I could get!

Annnnnd that’s all there is to learn. Key levels, price action, patience, and execution. That’s all it really comes down to at the end of the day. Keep things simple, and you’ll see results.

Haven’t done one of these in a while! I took 3 trades today. One that wasn’t as significant as the others, so I’ll explain my thoughts on the first 2.

The sentiment for the day was bearish because we had a sell off yesterday. SPX did bounce this morning, and I didn’t take the bounce because of news at 9:45 and 10, so I waited patiently for key levels to be hit & watched price action for a rejection at each level.

First level was near the opening print, where I took 5450 puts & sold on a move down. Second level was PDC, where I saw the double top formed, and then I proceeded to take 5455 puts. Far out of the money, but I was essentially just looking for a quick move for profit.

Kept things simple today, and it paid off.

I took 4 trades today, and one was a big win. I was keeping a very close eye on how the 5215 puts were reacting when SPY reached the PMH area after its rally up at opening. I had the 5215 options chain chart up, and I noticed that they were not losing value when SPY was testing the area, so I decided to go into the trade.

I did hold through data, but I was confident enough because my risk was only .40 on the trade. One more thing that gave me conviction about the trade was NQ reaching its untested 4H supply area, which is where it began to show signs of rejection. If NQ pulls back, then ES will follow, and then SPY will follow, as well. Cascading effect. SPX did have a gap to the bottom, which imo was easier to fill with the pullback that we got today.

I’m glad I stayed away from trading most of the week. Though I did miss yesterday’s move, but that was a sign to me that today was going to be a little better.

Not super happy with my execution today. Then again, the market these past couple of days has been a bit tough to trade intraday.

I was actually down around $800-$1000 earlier, but I waited until $5200 (psychological level) approached to see the reaction. I also had a daily close level from 04/11 that was untested, so that added more confirmation to the puts I took at $5200.

I’m walking away with a small green day because patience paid to wait for another key level, but today wasn’t really a great day IMO, and neither was yesterday. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @tradesbycase

I missed a lot of the move to the upside today due to meetings at work. I did manage to take a trade on SPX when SPY & ES broke the morning trend to the upside around 11, and then I attempted to take a few trades that didn’t really pan out. However, when ES & #SPY reached an intraday level that I had on the chart, I started to notice the rejections, and that was enough conviction for a quick counter trend scalp on SPX.

That trade netted me most of my profits today. Moral of the post is… identify key levels on the chart, wait until they are reached, keep an eye on price action, and then go in with confidence. Also, don’t crowd your main chart with a million indicators. Keep things simple & get used to identifying changes like break of structure.

I took a few trades today, and I had a few losses, BUT I waited for a key level to hit for the one trade that provided me with the best risk to reward.

Unfortunately, I missed the move at the open. You had to be really quick to catch that one today, BUT I did manage to scalp a call & a couple of puts after the initial move. However, when SPX got to a key level on my chart, 5070, I took 5050 SPX Puts due to a) the price, b) their overall volume, and c) open interest.

I was initially down on the trade because I got in a little too early, BUT I was confident to hold through because of the key level was there along with the Daily 5 SMA. Two key resistance areas for me. I proceeded to scale out as things went in my favor.

Key takeaway from all of this is… if you miss a move, then just wait, and once a key level gets hit, watch price action & then go into the trade if it provides you with the best risk to reward.

#FOMC was wild today. Unfortunately, I missed the entire move up. I had some contracts lined up, but I didn’t execute. However, I caught part of the move back down based on some levels on my chart.

SPX came into an area where I had a daily level. Along with the daily level, the Daily 20SMA was also there, and when I started to see the rejections, I took some 5025 puts because they had a lot of volume & OI. I went deep out of the money because I wasn’t fully confident that SPX was going to pull back as much as it did, and the amazing thing about the trade was that I was only risking $200 because I got the ten 5025 contracts at .20 each. As soon as SPX started heading down, I got out for a $2k profit.

SPX also presented another opportunity on its way down around 5050. A 5 min bear flag would have provided a chance to ride the next leg down, but I didn’t take it. The last 15 mins can be rather unpredictable, and that’s where I’ve given a lot of money back, so I have a rule to not trade that late in the day.

Also, SPY went up to test its Daily 20SMA and rejected it, so that was more confirmation for an entry on SPX.

I took one trade today because I had a feeling that it was going to be a slow trading day due to the fact that there are no news on the calendar, and FOMC weeks tend to be choppy / low volume until Wednesday.

I took SPX 5125 calls when SPY approached the 509 level, which we opened above this morning. Rule of thumb is that previous resistance normally turns into support (especially if we open above the level), so I had a pretty well defined exit strategy if things went against me. I scaled out as the trade started working.
