Inflation doesn’t care that you haven’t put your prices up.

Your materials went up. Your fuel went up. Your insurance, your rego, your wages, your super. All of it went up.

But a lot of tradies are still charging what they were charging two years ago.

And wondering why the money doesn’t stretch like it used to.

Here’s the thing. You haven’t done anything wrong. It just creeps up so slowly you don’t notice it happening.

Until you sit down and actually run the numbers.

That’s why you need to be reviewing your pricing regularly. Not once when you started the business and never again.

Check your costs. Check your margins. Check what a job actually costs you to deliver today, not in 2024.

Because if your costs went up and your prices didn’t, you’ve effectively given yourself a pay cut.

Bit of a rough start to last week.

Got a stack of missed calls from my son and knew something was up. Tyre blew at 100km and he crashed the Ute.

Good news is him and his girlfriend walked away fine. The Ute didn’t. Write off. Lesson learned about agreed value on old cars too. 😅

The rest of the week was a lot better.

Been having a play around with AI and jumped on the 80s trend. Turned the whole family into an 80s version of ourselves and even made a TMT superhero. Pretty funny stuff.

Back on my walks, keeping them short while the injury from the long one heals.

Warriors are out of the finals, which stung. Watched the UFC with Theo to make up for it.

And my step mum’s flying over from NZ for my birthday weekend. Looking forward to that one.

Every decision costs you something.

That’s the bit most tradies don’t see until they’re already paying for it.

The job you took because you needed the work. The bloke you kept on too long. The pricing conversation you put off for another year.

Even doing nothing is a decision. It just sends the bill later.

This is what Kayla’s talking about here, and it means a lot to hear it.

Because when you’re in the thick of it, you can’t always see what a decision is going to cost you. You’re too close to it. You just want the problem gone.

Sometimes all you need is someone outside the business who can look at it straight and help you weigh it up properly.

That’s the job. And I love this part of it.
