2025 Wrapped ๐Ÿ

Second season of triathlons, and a year of properly having a go at new stuff.

Ticked off my first ever 70.3 at @intotri Kernowman in May, complete with a washing machine swim, falling off my bike, and back pain that stuck around for the entire run. Character building, that one.

Got properly stuck in at Box Hill Triathlon.

Took on @fullsteam_sport Castle to Coast and learned first hand how brutal the South Downs Way can be.

Raised ยฃ1k+ for @mariecurieuk taking on the Padstow to Rock swim. Easily one of the most rewarding days of the year.

Smashed an evening sprint at Dorney.

Wrapped up the triathlon season at @trireigate , battling the worst back pain of the year.

Then finished it all off by running my fastest ever half marathon at Maidenhead Half.

Plenty of ups and downs, but still buzzing to get back out there and keep pushing. Huge kudos to the @berkshiretrisquad , and @mi5cha for the support.

Already getting myself and the rocket ship ๐Ÿš€ ready for 2026. More to come. by @train_with_mark

Maidenhead Half Marathon โœ…๏ธ

Haven't done a running event in a looong time! Aimed to do a sub 2 hour shift with an A goal being 1:55.

Locked in and finished in 1:53:41 ๐Ÿ’ช

Thankfully, I found a similar paced runner 12km in, got chatting, and we made the agreement to see it through together until the finish ๐Ÿค

Genuinely wouldn't have got the time I did without that push. The running community delivers once again!

Big shout out to the @berkshiretrisquad crew who were out in numbers running, volunteering, and supporting. And a big thanks to @strength_and_movements @brownleefitness for getting me to the start line in great shape despite a few niggles over the past few months.

Loved wrapping up my season on such a high and only more motivated to get some more goals locked in for 2026 ๐Ÿ”’ taken in Maidenhead,London, England by @train_with_mark

Closed out the 2025 season at @thetriguys_coaching Tri Reigate (Olympic). The swim went to plan, but a sore back on the bike derailed my day and left me battling just to keep moving on the run.

Not how I wanted to finish โ€” but finishing was still a victory in itself.

Looking back, itโ€™s been a season Iโ€™m proud of:

- Two 70.3s

- Multiple sprints

- A couple of Olympics

- A bucket full of lessons learned

The results matter, but the journey matters more. Lessons banked, progress made, and a fire lit for what comes next.

Congrats also to @jbarrbyford who completed his 2nd ever triathlon and after a 5 week training block, absolutely crushed his previous time ๐Ÿ’ช taken in Buckland Park Lake by @train_with_mark

PROGRESS ๐Ÿงฑ

4 months working with @strength_and_movements and today I shifted 100kg on my back!

The 1st clip: 24th March, shifting 80kg
The 2nd clip: 28th July, shifting 100kg

Why? Consistently showing up, fine tuning the approach & adding white socks because we all know they give you extra va va voom! by @train_with_mark

Castle To Coast 2025 - โœ…๏ธ

Swim was dreamy โ€“ no mass start chaos, found a good rhythm earlyโ€ฆ until my goggles staged a mutiny and let the lake in for the second half. Lovely.

The bike was soggy. Honestly, I was drier in the lake. But top-notch company and a cracking route through the countryside made it a soggy joyride ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Then came the run โ€“ a stunning scenic trail with more climbs than I bargained for. Turns out 90kg isn't the ideal spec for hill work, but we moved (slowly... and with swearing).

Chuffed to have got it done. Bodyโ€™s broken, egoโ€™s intact. Now entering full horizontal recovery mode ๐Ÿ›Œ

๐Ÿ“ธ - #1 Pre swim prep was wetter than the swim
๐Ÿ“ธ - #2 Bike checkpoint 1, pretty soggy but good spirits
๐Ÿ“ธ - #3 Bike checkpoint 2, very soggy
๐Ÿ“ธ - #4 Bike done
๐Ÿ“ธ - #5 The run was done, and the medal was in the bag
๐Ÿ“ธ - #6 Finishing straight vid

Box Hill Olympic Tri 2025 โ€“ 2:56

Target was sub-3, and I got it! Just scraped in at 2:56 and honestly buzzing with that.

Loved everything about this race โ€“ stunning lake swim @bucklandparklake , quiet country lanes on the bike, and a beautiful run loop around the lake to finish it off. Would 100% recommend this one for next year if you're looking for a scenic Olympic @thetriguys_coaching .

Swim felt decent, bike had some tasty climbs (Pebble Hill was worse than Box Hill, change my mind), and the run was just a case of hanging on. No crashes on the bike โ€“ always a win!

Still loads to improve on the bike and run, but I'm really happy with how it went. On to Castle to Coast next in July.

Biggest thanks to my number 1 fan, my wife, who cheered me and all the other racers on today, and was the one to get injured with a burnt head ๐Ÿคฃ

Completed my first ever 70.3 at @intotri Kernowman in 6h28!

Missed the A goal (sub 6), and technically failed the C goal (donโ€™t crash the bike ๐Ÿ˜…), but buzzing to get it done.

Highlights included:

Nearly 1000m climbing (I'm definitely not a climber ๐Ÿ™ˆ)

Classic Cornish weather

My first sea swim (in a washing machine)

A dramatic bike crash mid-race after skidding in front of a car ๐Ÿ˜ฌ (I'm OK)

Mud, road rash, and a gnarly elbow gash (The BTS kit held up very well if there's a silver lining to it all)

Heroic car driver helping me dust off and crack on

40km more on the bike + a brutal run with legs missing and a lower back that felt 90 years old

But after channelling my inner hardest geezer, the tarmac may have won that round, but I wasnโ€™t losing the fight.

Thanks so much to my number 1 cheerleader, my wife Mischa, and the legends, Liam and Soyen from @berkshiretrisquad who kept me going when it got rough ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

Onto the next one!

Prepped. Nervous. Tapered. Caffeinated. Ready (ish).

Just did my last pre race stroll along the Padstow coastline, and it's starting to feel real

This Sunday, Iโ€™ll be toeing the start line for my first ever 70.3 at the @intotri Kernowman ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

What started as a questionable Google search in a moment of overconfidence has somehow turned into six months of early alarms, Lycra-based life choices, and a concerning relationship with energy gels. And now, it's showtime.

My race goals:
๐Ÿฅ‡ Goal A: Sub 6 hours
๐Ÿฅˆ Goal B: Sub 7 hours
๐Ÿฅ‰ Goal C: Donโ€™t drown, crash, or cry (in public)

No matter the time on the clock, this one's already a win. I've trained harder than ever, pushed limits I didn't know I had, and discovered muscles I didnโ€™t know existed.

Big kudos to @brownleefitness @strength_and_movements @berkshiretrisquad for all the help in the build-up and getting me race ready!

Letโ€™s go make some memories โ€” and possibly some very weird facial expressions in race photos.

Let the suffering commence ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ฅ

T-minus 3 days until @intotri Kernowman 70.3 ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Just a gentle spin along the Camel Trail this morningโ€”because nothing says โ€œready to raceโ€ like pretending you're a leisurely tourist with lycra tan lines and energy gels in your back pocket. ๐Ÿซโ˜•๏ธ

1st triathlon of 2025: complete! โœ…๏ธ

@thefixevents All Nations Super Sprint at Dorney Lake โ€“ and what a way to kick off the season.

Race report:

Water: tropical (by UK standards) ๐ŸŒŠ

Legs: mostly operational ๐Ÿฆต

Bike course: longer than expected because why not ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Headwind: rude ๐Ÿ’จ

Run: toasty, dehydrated, character-building โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿฅต

Total time: 01:12:10

Conclusion: everythingโ€™s working (just about) ahead of @intotri Kernowman later this month. Shoutout to @berkshiretrisquad for keeping me accountable, @strength_and_movements for powering up the engine, and @brownleefitness for the plan thatโ€™s turning me into a triathlete one sweaty brick session at a time.

Been working remotely with Mark for the last 8 weeks and he was looking for a simple, structured approach to develop full body strength, power & resilience to injury alongside his triathlon training.

Mark isnโ€™t a powerlifter or strength specialist, but weโ€™ve been zooming in on the details surrounding each lift to improve his technique as well as his force producing capabilities.

Here are some stats showing his strength progression based on estimated 1RMs over the last 8 weeks.
