🔔 Double PR 🔔

Frederick HM ✅️

Wow that was a tough race. Today was a celebration of all my hard work and I got 10th place in the W50-54 in my biggest race so far!!!!

In reality, I just wasn't feeling it today. I woke up at 1:30 am, way before the alarm, with a bit of a headache (which I still have), and never went back to sleep. I didn't feel like I was ready to blast out a 5k PR or any other distance. I kind of didn't even want to run, but I proceeded as planned and hoped to absorb some good energy from the race day vibes.

The first 6 ish miles of the race felt okay and the miles were ticking by pretty close to plan, but after that first 10k my legs just didn't want to turn over.

I had one of my tried and true energy gels after that first 10k, hoping for a boost, but instead it irritated my stomach and gave me no boost. And the gravel finish. Yikes!

I hoped to be faster today, and thus am a little disappointed despite my double PR result. I think some of you can relate.

That said, when I think of where I was just in September, versus today, I have to just embrace it and be proud of myself. This is only my 3rd half marathon! So far.

Lots of data points to regroup for my next race!

I WILL achieve my goals.

LFG!

Comeback Year 3 Incoming!

New year, new goals.

It seems like just yesterday, in mid 2023 (and many times before that) when I said there was, "no way in hell I was getting back into running. I don't want my life to revolve around running again."

Later that same year, as a way to deal with the unexpected death of my niece, looking for a way to expedite getting into better shape, and inspired by @ray_gman23 's performance at the Regional Track Meet, I started a running comeback after a 32 year break. 👀

Since, then I've been working hard, injured myself being a tad overzealous, changed my program to optimize results, had some setbacks, and made a lot of progress.

2025 Highlights:

1st W50-59 AG @ FOTM 25k
1st W50-54 AG @ Jamaica Pond Parkrun
2nd W50-54 AG @ Lake Place 10k (injured, so held back, want a redemption race)

Thanks again to hubs @russellgadams for running, pacing & adventuring with me!

Aside from my 2026 run time goals:

* 145k vert
* MD/WV Triple Crown
* Run a "marathon distance" on the C&O
* MD AT in 1 day - does this mean I'm officially joining dark side? 😂
* 1 endurance challenge or UM distance race : TBD

I've got my mind and heart set on my 2026 goals and beyond.

I'm not yet certain of all the races or challenges I will do this year, but I'm looking forward to pushing myself and having fun out there.

I look forward to seeing all of you crush 2026, including persevering through the tough times!

May the race (or challenge) gods and goddesses shine upon us!! LFG!!!

T-49 'til @lock2lockmarathon HM!

This is my 7th and longest run since May 31.
Not ideal. Still adjusting to the humidity, but I accomplished my goal of running a 10k distance this weekend.

Quads a little sore after yesterday's hills and lower body slay, overall felt good. Tested a few short speed sections close to HM pace. Ankle seemed okay.

My main issue today was my heart rate, which got up into low 170s around 4.5 miles and then up to 180 by mile 5, so I didn't really want to push the pace at that point.

Thank you to hubs for running circles around me!

LFG without hurting anything else!

FriYay! 🎉

Driveway Hill repeats for lunch. I dug deeper than anticipated - readjusting to yucky east coast humidity 🥵 I ran the hills hard, but no sprinting. Can still feel tightness when pushing off on the hills. Might need to take it flatter for a few days.

Never skip leg slay lower body workout.

If you made it to the video, iykyk. 🫶🏻

#hillspaythebills lunch fun!

Gradually stepping up (😉) training after yesterday's visit to the ortho doc, and today's PT visit, with a perfect pain free 5k lunch mailbox loop trek with 531' ⬆️ and heat acclimation 🥵.🎉

I'll be doing PT for the next month, and will gradually be increasing the running miles, speed & hills. ❤️

Though I'll mostly be staying off the trails for a bit, I'm definitely feeling inspired after my PT visit - my therapist is an 11x JFK 50 finisher. I simply cannot escape the vortex of this race. 🤣🙄

In the meantime, I'm feeling a little more hopeful about being able to run the Lock 2 Lock HM, now just over 7 weeks away.

First run in 2 weeks

After a mostly sedentary week, I felt a shred of happiness and inspiration when I went to the track this morning, still grappling with *still* recovering from my ankle injuries. The smoke and air quality here is actually worse than it was at our recent base camp outside of Leadville near the Willow Fire, but it felt good to be exercising.

50/50 on whether or not I'm going to participate in my upcoming HM now just 8 weeks away. We'll see.

Today's effort felt okay, but my ankle/foot is definitely compromised. Right now about 3-4 minutes/mile slower than HM pace feels like a lot even with walking recovery breaks.

I'll keep working & slowly trying to get back up to my target speeds.

Keep inspiring me runfam!🙌🏻

Still mostly having fun in CO despite ongoing ankle woes. *pictures not in date or injury order🙄

It's been difficult to get my head around the fact that the plan I've put so much thought, and frankly training, into has evaporated.

Regardless, I'm extremely grateful for my CO time and adventures.

I did say a few weeks ago, after the initial injury, that I was going to try to enjoy the trip as much as possible & deal with the consequences later. Unfortunately later was not much later.

The short version is it seems I may have injured another part of my ankle last week in Leadville while simply walking on pavement. Until then, I was mostly making progress, even back up to pretty good hikes, decent vert & light trail running segments with somewhat minor pain/consequences.

But as of today, I can mostly tolerate walking on smooth evenly graded surfaces like pavement. Anything rocky, gravelly, steep, slippery, scree like, off camber, sandy, uneven or rooty is a no go. Definitely no running, and even some basic yoga/pilates moves are off the table.

We've also been dealing with smoke from CO wildfires: the Gold Mountain Fire in Ouray, and recently the Willow Fire in Leadville. We tried our best to support the Leadville and Twin Lakes communities during that segment of our trip. Stay strong Leadville and Twin Lakes.❤️

Today we're fortunate enough to have some rain in Crested Butte. It seems the wildflowers are several weeks ahead of their normal schedule. We missed the Lupine, but it's still beautiful with many other wildflowers blooming - though withering under 9500', and we're lucky enough to see the Monument Flower (Frasera speciosa) superbloom.

Not sure what we'll get up to the next few days, but most likely on the lower key side for me.

Hope to take in a few more amazing views, stargazing if the night sky is clear enough, maybe some easy hike/walks with my "trail crutches", and hopefully more wildflowers.

Thanks for reading this far🫶🏻

Happy summer solstice!🌞

Wonderful fam time visiting Erie yesterday and today with @terrieadams1124
@maddmatts @maddie_rose_30 @hunter122707
& Delilah and Daisy 🐶🐶 the cutest!

Terrie cooked us an absolutely amazing & unforgettable Chicken Shawarma meal last night! I had so much fun being her sous chef & can't wait to try replicating this recipe at home! Thank you to Matt for cooking us awesome brekkie burritos this morning!

This afternoon we drove up Poudre Canyon to Steamboat Springs. What a beautiful drive up the twisty , turny canyon back up into the mountains. Yes, my beloved car is dirty after almost 2000 miles of driving across the country so far on this trip.

My ankle is a little irritated from sitting in the car for several hours, but we grabbed some food and walked around downtown Steamboat and along the Yampa river trail to stretch out the legs. Resting and elevating now.

Looking forward to the next days of adventuring with @russellgadams

Walked a little over 3 miles (not all at once)

The ankle is feeling better and better each day, but I can still sense the injury so being cautious.
