Apple beat. Apple got cut.
A strong earnings report doesn't automatically mean investors are getting a good buying price.
Tuesday's opening price told a different story from the headline.
The market opened substantially lower. Buyers responded, but the first bounce still had earlier price territory above it.
The lesson isn't to predict what Apple does next.
It's to understand the decisions the market has already made.

TIME tells. Monday wipes.
Gold wiped up. Oil wiped down. Intel got wiped again.
Monday didn't pick a direction. It picked the chasers.

TIME tells you when participation changes.

Last week, Google, Gold, SpaceX, and Intel all dropped hard. That money is already burned.

This week is new participation:
MON ISM • TUE JOLTS • WED ADP • FRI NFP

Do not hurry. Wait for the market to tell us where to trade.

Buy the dream, get the knife free.

Google gave people a good story more than once.
Each time, buyers saw hope.
Each time, a cheaper price pulled them back in.
And they still ended up back near where the move started.

Cheaper is not a Good Price.

May: everybody wanted Google.
October: everybody is back where March started.

May 13 — record close. Berkshire bought more, JP Morgan named it a top pick. People bought the good news.

June 1 — Google said it needed $80B more to build AI. People held. Just a dip?

July 23 — cloud grew 82%, but the bill grew faster, cash flow went negative for the first time. People held again.

October 28 — cloud doubled to $30.7B, earnings missed, record quarterly spending, cash flow negative again.
October 29 — price fell 12.6%, worst earnings day since IPO.
October 30 — back near where March buyers started. Same price, different people holding it.

You did not buy a bad company.
You bought a good story three times, and you are still back to zero.

If you bought in May, are you still holding the story, or just the price you paid for it?

August was a dream.

That swing high told the story a month later — that's when it was confirmed.

Then the sharp expansion drop came, and Halloween started early.

All week the scary stories were tech — Google, Amazon, Intel getting hammered.

Gold was the place people looked at as the safe one.

Today, the last day of October, the hard drop came — gold under $4,000.

Even the safe one put on a costume.

If gold can get spooked, what's safe tonight? by @traintheeyes

Last week's sellers celebrated. Tuesday walked it all back up. Now they're feeling the tickle — and Wednesday the Fed speaks. What happens when the confident ones start squirming? by @traintheeyes

Gold, this year — in four quarters.

The year began with a spike to 5,782. It was a visit, not a close. The first quarter ended at 4,780.

The second quarter fell back to near 4,100. The third tried to recover and closed at 4,187. This quarter opened at 4,190 and now trades near 4,065 — below every quarterly close of the year.

Many people bought gold this year because it felt safe. The chart shows why it has not felt that way.

This is not advice. It is simply what the price did. by @traintheeyes

Tesla beat the number last night. This morning told the rest of the story.

The spike. The flush. The run back through the gate at $382.70.

Price does not read the headline. It reads the fine print.

Reading price. Still taking notes.

Tesla reports tonight. October opened at $356.81, dug to $349 under last month's close — then woosh, $388.84. The open buyers made the best decision of the month. Now the crowd stares at $400. A real gate sits at $399.58. Will it be the ceiling? Earnings get the first vote. How fast, and how close. Reading price. Still taking notes. by @traintheeyes

A new promise. An older price problem.

Musk promised every kid in America a SpaceX share this morning — ~$10.5 billion. The stock: $176.42 on Oct 6, back through the October open, $147.97 today.
