Getting a puppy with the right temperament and raising is half the battle….but the other half is how you continue on from there! Training your puppy to be responsive, and enjoyable from day 1! Think about this: where you reward is what you are reinforcing #betnedoodlebreeder #dogtrainer taken in Castle Rock, Colorado by @trainupadog

Every day I look up and there it is again…a ridiculously proud puppy comes trotting out of my bedroom, tail wagging, carrying a shoe like they’ve just discovered the greatest treasure in the world. And every single time, I laugh. 😂 It’s the same picture over and over…same hallway, same stolen shoes, same very pleased little face…just a different puppy.

And somehow, just about the time one puppy has it all figured out, they go home and I start over with the next one. We begin the shoe conversation all over.

It’s a constant cycle of teaching the same things over and over again, but if I ever stop training puppies, I’d miss every bit of it.

There’s just something about the mischief, the tiny victories, watching things start to click, giving them good experiences, and getting to know each little personality.

It’s messy(shout out ruggable rugs and hardwood floors) and repetitive…and I love this stage so much. 🤍 by @trainupadog

Honey almost died after eating a pack of gum off a desk a few months ago. Monday she could have died again after eating 11 cinnamon raisin bagels off the counter. This @petsafe pad gives the dog a shock when they get on the counter, which is exactly what I needed because if I’m in the room Honey won’t even try to get on the counter. Don’t mess around, counter surfing is life threatening! #countersurfing #dogtips #dogtraining by @trainupadog

One of my favorite things about group dog classes is watching the relationship between a dog and their owner completely change.

It’s not just about teaching sit, stay, heel, and come. It’s about building communication, confidence, and respect…until you start working together as a team.

Watching owners go from feeling frustrated or unsure to confidently handling their dog in real life situations is one of the best parts of what I do.

Good training changes the dog, but it also changes the relationship.

Your dog doesn’t need more freedom…they need to know what to do with the freedom they have.

Before expecting your dog to make good choices off leash, around guests, at the park, or when distractions show up, build the foundation first.

Practice the little things:
• Walking calmly beside you
• Holding a stay while life happens
• Coming the first time you call
• Settling when nothing exciting is happening
• Looking to you when they’re unsure

Good obedience isn’t about controlling every move your dog makes. It’s about giving them the skills to confidently navigate real life with you.

Because it only counts if it works in real life. by @trainupadog

Guess you can take the girl out of the country but you can never really take the country out of the girl. Drives are just something Riggs and I really enjoy but it’s not for everyone. So thankful for you all! Keep loving on your dogs, and if you’ve never ridden in the back of truck, put it on your bucket list😊 by @trainupadog
