Hi, I’m Ash 👋🏼
@trainwith.ashh is where I share my training, racing, and learning as I work towards my first sprint triathlon while completing year 4 of 5 of my Exercise Physiology degree.

This page is about balancing performance, progress, and recovery — the highs, the lows, and all the lessons along the way.

September is chronic pain awareness month!! 💜
It might seem counterintuitive to exercise when you’re in pain, however the right type can reduce discomfort, improve strength and make daily life easier.
Regular exercise, tailored to the individual can reduce sensitivity , improve function and improve wellbeing #chronicpain #exercisephysiology by @trainwith.ashh

I remember the first time I heard about someone’s uterus prolapsing during a gym class and I was HORRIFIED (because I didn’t know it was a thing)

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) occurs when one or more pelvic organs, such as the bladder, bowel or uterus, descend and place pressure on the vaginal wall. Symptoms can include pelvic heaviness or pressure, urinary incontinence, lower back or pelvic pain, constipation, or the sensation of something “dropping.”

And while pelvic floor training can play an important role, pelvic health is about more than just doing Kegels.

A well-designed exercise program can incorporate aerobic exercise, resistance training and pelvic floor muscle training, with exercise selection, breathing strategies, load and intensity modified around your symptoms and individual presentation.

Importantly, having prolapse doesn’t automatically mean you need to avoid strength training, running or other forms of exercise. The goal is to find strategies that allow you to move confidently, build strength and maintain the activities you enjoy, without unnecessary restriction.

If you’re experiencing symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction, speak with your GP or a pelvic health physiotherapist/AEP for individualised assessment and guidance.

Education only — individual exercise prescription should be guided by an appropriately qualified health professional.

Your heart is a muscle, so train it like one🫀

Aerobic exercise is one of the most effective ways we can support cardiovascular health across the lifespan.

Walking, running, swimming and cycling (and other forms of exercise) can improve:
→ Cardiorespiratory fitness
→ Aerobic capacity
→ Blood pressure & vascular function
→ Metabolic health
→ Cardiovascular disease risk

And for women, movement is about more than performance. When paired with adequate nutrition and recovery, regular exercise can support overall health and help manage some symptoms across the menstrual cycle.

You don’t need to train harder. You just need to keep moving.
