😓😓😓

I don’t want to hear excuses why you can’t get enough sleep if you have time to scroll, Netflix, be out and about etc. Getting adequate amounts of sleep after being inconsistent can quite literally feel like a steroid. The body is capable of some amazing things, especially when fully recovered, and sleep is the most effective tool for recovery.

And guess what? It’s not about ONE good night of sleep in seven days. It’s stringing multiple days of good sleep in a row. Consistency will bring the change.

A few more minor tips:
-Limit caffeine & set a cut of time for caffeine
-Lower the temp of your living space at night
-Supplement if NEEDED to help you get on a routine
-Be consistent taken in Austin, Texas by @trainwithjay19

No respect for big upper body’s with no legs around here. Go hit some legs bro.

The last movement of yesterday’s workout. A great finisher to add into your next leg day to blow up the quads.

SA Cable press around.

This one is definitely a little different, but when done correctly it’s a BANGER! Single arm offers some variety & allows you to work on imbalances. The arm path allows for a bias of the upper chest. ITS JUST DIFFERENT. taken in Austin, Texas by @trainwithjay19

As an in person trainer a coach you need to be asking these questions. If you’re a client, your trainer needs to be asking these questions. Did you get some sleep? Did you eat today? How much water have you had? Does anything hurt? Are you sore? What feels good?

Because all of these things impact your ability to train effectively and efficiently. This doesn’t apply to bodybuilders or competitors who should be able to manage these on their own. But when we’re working with more of a general population, THESE THINGS MATTER. You’re going to have to adjust the work out based off the answers to some of those questions. The goal is sustainability, not just driving every client into the ground every single time. Meet your client where they’re at. taken in Austin, Texas by @trainwithjay19

STOP DOING SHITTY RDLS.

RDL’s are probably the most difficult pattern to learn, especially for a beginner. Once you get them down though there’s not many movements that compare in terms of hamstring growth and strength.
In my opinion, the most important one is learning how to brace. If you don’t know how to brace you’ll never be able to progress as far as weight goes because your back will almost always be a limiting factor. Start there then take baby steps. Strong core, strong, glutes, and strong hamstrings will almost always prevent any kind of back pain. The problem is most people (generally men) only neglect training the specific body parts. taken in Austin, Texas by @trainwithjay19

I could’ve had a bowl of oats (40g)
A scoop of protein powder (30)
Some peanut butter (20g)
For a similar amount of calories.
#1 it would have way more protein.
#2 it would keep you satiated/full longer.
#3 it wouldn’t take up all my fats for the day.

HIGH PROTEIN DOES NOT MEAN LOW CALORIE or healthy. Putting ā€œhigh proteinā€ on a label has become super popular & trendy. Companies have realized this and put this on ANY PRODUCT that has protein in it šŸ˜‚ This is a marketing tactic.

I do however love their whole ingredients, and YES the cookie was incredible. I would have it again šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø I’m not saying don’t ever eat it. All I’m saying is be aware & conscious of your decisions if you’re trying to make a healthy change. This took a up a large chunk of my fats for the day. High protein does not mean low calorie. by @trainwithjay19

10-20 sets per muscle group per week! The number of sets will obviously depends on how new or advanced you are to the gym. It might take some testing.

This is a over simplification, but if you have these movement, you cover quite a bit of ground .

- Squat Varitaion
- Hinge Varitaiton
- Unilateral
- Bonus* Hip thrust variation

THEN
- Accessories based on needs/goals

Sometimes you could keep it that simple! Find the movements that work for you and you can easily build a solid leg day. You can do them in one day, or if you have a higher volume of sets split them into two or three that way recovery might be a bit better.

Smart programmers understand that increasing weight isn’t the only form of progression. Yes, we want to have the goal of increasing weight every time we get in the gym. We want progressive overload. But sometimes you might hit a plateau. Progression can also include better range of motion, tempo, order of exercise, addition of sets. Try all of these things! Find your weakness, and start with those! There’s 1000 different ways to progress while you’re lifting weights and in the gym. Don’t let these bros convince you otherwise. You can get stronger in many different ways. Try switching up the order of your exercises.

Take adequate rest in between your sets! If you’re trying to build muscle, you need to rest. Resting 30 seconds to one minute will not do anything for you in terms of growing. Yeah it’ll help muscular endurance and conditioning but if the goal is to build solid tissue…REST. I can very per person, but I like 2:30-3 minutes for most stuff. Heavy compounds or bilateral movements, I might even take a little bit longer. Listen to your body, but also don’t cheat yourself. I find this to be a typical issue with new clients, SPECIFICALLY the ones who come from group classes. And don’t get me started with that. There’s a reason you stopped seeing results. taken in Austin, Texas by @trainwithjay19

THE MOST UNDERRATED HAMSTRING MOVEMENT āš ļø

For me, single leg dumbbell RDL’s have always been a staple. Especially when I was having trouble with my back and I couldn’t do a normal RDL without pain. This still allowed me to load and isolate the hamstring in a heavy way. They worked so well that they’re still in my rotation even though I no longer have back pain.

1. You load the hamstring in the lengthened position.
2. A great alternative for bilateral RDL movements.
3. It’s unilateral (one leg) which means you’ll likely work on some imbalances.
4. Gives you the ability to load heavyweight.

Like I said, in my opinion, this is one of the most effective hamstring movements. It’s probably often overlooked because it’s not typically considered a traditional one.
