🧗Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat ride 5.12c/7b+ (some routes you just have to try for the name)

Turning on my try hard mode again felt so good! After spending the first few days here getting back into the swing of things, I finally feel more in sync with my body, my climbing and the rocks. Trying easier routes and giving myself some time and grace was just what I needed ✨.

I still can't fully lock off with my right arm due to my injury, so I'll have to come back for this one next year 🌄 Already excited!

“Dreamcatcher was first done in 2005. I was a highly energetic kid who had just found climbing and was too oblivious to pay attention to media.

But! When I did, this was one of the first routes that caught my eye. I was inspired by photos of climbers I looked up to, feet swinging on one of the most iconic climbs on the continent.

I put a lot of work into a flash attempt for it. I felt ready, but had a pretty anticlimactic fall on the start slab. No regrets trying for something hard just based on the end result. I tried again. I learned the slab. 🙃

After not flashing, I was worried sending wouldn’t feel as meaningful. But when I topped it out on my second day, I was truly psyched: I was surprised I held it together after I split a tip on the slab, cut my feet in the wrong place, and maybe got the trophy for LKA (longest known ascent)😅

One of those ‘I’d rather be climbing’ posts while I’m stuck at work 😎

Who else can relate? Take it easy on yourself when you finally do put those shoes back on. In 1,000 years none of this is gonna matter. Still, whether it’s work or play, we give this life thing all we got!! (;

Red River Gorge trip coming up! The psyche is HIGH for this one, as I've been looking forward to it the whole year 🌞. Although my training and health have been far from perfect this year (more on that later), I'm feeling strong and ready to try hard 💪🏞️

Same job. Different priorities.

Padding, adjustability, weight, gear capacity and fit all matter differently depending on the objective. A harness optimized for projecting steep sport routes shouldn't solve the same problem as one built for glacier travel or a busy rental fleet.
