A ONCE-IN-A-MILLION DOUBLE TRANSIT?

Astro-photography is all about patience, but sometimes the aviation gods give you a moment that leaves you absolutely breathless! Yesterday in Rillaar, in broad daylight around 18:36, I captured the ultimate holy grail: a simultaneous Double Moon Transit! 🌕✈️✈️
Two aircraft flying in the exact same direction, on the same airway, crossing the moon just 1 second apart as they streak to the left! Thanks to Transit Chaser, I saw them counting down together, and my reflexes did the rest.

• Jet2 flight EXS79NX (Boeing 737-800) ✈️
• Aegean Airlines flight AEE3LG (Airbus A321neo) ✈️

The conditions were incredibly challenging. Fast-moving layers of white and grey daylight clouds made it impossible to get a perfectly sharp shot, creating a lot of soft blur and atmospheric noise. But despite the low sharpness caused by the rushing weather, the sheer rarity of capturing both silhouettes side by side, with their massive contrails cutting through the clouds, is pure magic!

A massive thank you to Transit Chaser. This is a tracking win I will never forget! by @transitchaser

I spent the past 3 years building a way to capture moments like these. ✈️☀️🌙
Getting a plane perfectly lined up with the Sun or Moon used to involve hours of planning, waiting around, and a whole lot of luck.
So I built Transit Chaser.
It’s a free web app that predicts airplane transits across the Sun and Moon, and now it even comes with a 3D visualizer so you can see the predicted flight path before it happens.
Three years of work, and I’m pretty excited to finally show you what it can do.

Would you rather photograph a plane crossing the Sun or the Moon? 👀

Another day, another collection of aviation moments against the Sun! ☀️✈️
Five different aircraft, five unique silhouettes and some beautiful moments captured against our closest star.
Today’s line-up:
✈️ SriLankan Airlines – ALK506 (London – Colombo)
✈️ easyJet – EZY79UL (London Gatwick – Kraków)
✈️ Lufthansa City Airlines – LHX2516 (Munich – Dublin)
✈️ TAP Air Portugal – TAP57CH
✈️ Transavia – TRA11T (Amsterdam – Porto)
From tiny silhouettes to perfectly defined aircraft crossings, every transit has its own character.
Patience, timing and a little help from TransitChaser. Another rewarding day chasing the Sun! ☀️

A few close encounters with the Moon today! 🌙✈️
Some made it across, others came surprisingly close. Today’s Moon transits were definitely on the narrow side, but that’s part of the thrill of chasing these fleeting moments. A little closer than yesterday, perhaps! 😉
Featuring flights from:
✈️ Jettime – JTD237 (Copenhagen – Las Palmas)
✈️ Brussels Airlines – BEL7NL (Geneva – Brussels)
✈️ Norwegian Air Sweden – NSZ8DS
✈️ Ryanair – RYR2QD (Beauvais – Faro)
✈️ Turkish Airlines – THY0AG (Istanbul – London)
Another day of looking up, tracking, waiting and hoping for that perfect alignment. And once again, TransitChaser did a great job with its predictions!

Five successful Sun transits in one day! ☀️✈️
What a day for solar transit photography! Five aircraft crossing the face of the Sun, each captured at just the right moment.
Today’s successful transits featured:
✈️ BAW950M – British Airways
✈️ BOH711 – Air Bohemia
✈️ D-INNA – Beechcraft King Air
✈️ OO-JGK – ASL Group
✈️ SXS56L – SunExpress
Five different moments, five unique silhouettes against our nearest star.
None of this would have been possible without the incredibly accurate predictions from the TransitChaser app. Precision timing makes all the difference in this very special kind of photography!
A day to remember! ☀️

So close, yet so beautiful!
So close to the Moon… but not quite! 🌕✈️
Sometimes aviation photography is all about precision. And sometimes, even the most accurate predictions can’t guarantee a perfect crossing.
Today, I had several opportunities to capture aircraft against the Moon. Unfortunately, every single one just missed the lunar disc… some by the narrowest of margins!
Today’s almost-transits featured:
✈️ BAW932 – British Airways
✈️ EWG4MJ – Eurowings
✈️ HOP43FZ – Air France HOP
✈️ KAC103 – Kuwait Airways
✈️ RYR76QQ – Ryanair
✈️ VCG1UG – Catreus
✈️ VIR359 – Virgin Atlantic
No perfect lunar crossings today, but plenty of beautiful encounters between aircraft and Moon.
Once again, a big thank you to the TransitChaser app for its remarkably precise predictions. Even when the planes just miss their target, the chase itself is part of the magic!
Sometimes almost is beautiful enough. 🌙

$𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗦 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚. 🌕✈️ One aircraft. One Moon. One split-second opportunity. A British Airways aircraft crossing the face of the Moon, captured with my Nikon Z8 and NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 PF. These moments don’t happen by chance alone. 📸 Using @transitchaser, I was monitoring a potential aircraft transit across the Moon, with the app providing an alert that a crossing could be approaching. From there, it was all about being ready, tracking the aircraft and capturing that tiny window of opportunity as it passed across the lunar surface. In this Reel, I’m showing the process behind the photograph — from the Transit Chaser alert and original high-speed camera burst to the final edited and animated image. A moment lasting just a fraction of a second, captured frame by frame. Planning. Patience. Precision. 🌕✈️ Where Speed Meets Art. #MoonCrosser #BritishAirways #NikonZ8 #AviationPhotography #moon by @transitchaser$
