I’m a person who loves color. But in my personal spaces I prefer a more muted palette. The quieter tones calm me. What are your thoughts on color? Let me know in comments or pick here 👇

I don’t know about you, but at my house this time of year a lot of my planters are pretty much spent. This one in particular got way overgrown with its sweet potato vine and banana plant.

Let’s go shopping at @sunnysidegardensmn and grab some cool fall plants to refresh it. I’m using an annual Rudbeckia, a red New Guinea Impatiens a Croton and a russet mum. To add some height I’m using some sticks with great visual interest that I’ll carry over for a winter look. I’m also nabbing some of these unique pumpkins and my favorite a Turban gourd for a unique fall display.

Do you refresh your planters or just let them go once summer is over? Let me know in comments.

Having space for everyone to be together comfortably and cozy is a must! The HULALA HOME @hulala_home Moussea Modern Chenille Power Reclining Sofa with Sofa Bed Functionality is not only comfortable and family friendly but it has three separate seating sections that can operate separately or all together. Each seat has a headrest that can be raised or lowered for comfort along with the ability to sit comfortably upright or all the way down to a full recline. With all three sections lowered it makes a great bed for guests, naps or sleepovers! The sofa comes in several colors and I chose Moss. The fabric is soft chenille and spills soak up quickly. With the cooler months approaching having a place for snuggles is the best ever!

HULALA Home is currently offering 15% off using the code TML15. Here is where you can find this sofa:

I don’t know about you, but summer coming to a close. makes me a little sad. Summer can be a hectic time, but in a good way. The thrill of choosing and collecting your annuals to build the perfect containers, planting your vegetable garden and choosing perennials that you’ll be so excited to see come back year after year! Lazy days playing in the pool, learning new swimming skills, playing games in the yard, enjoying wildlife and quiet moments on the deck. These all add up to what I’d consider a great summer.

A shoutout to my friends @sunnysidegardensmn for being such a great source for all the beautiful new plant additions to my yard! Stopping by their garden center to peruse and dream and bring home the best choices for your yard is a special part of the whole process of summer!

How about you? Are you ready for fall or do you want to savor more of all things summer?

Found natural pieces make for the most beautiful decor. Not only are they stunning in their own dried form but they’re also sustainable. Should you ever tire of them (but why would you) they are completely compostable. I’ve always had a love for an organic shape and styling is so easy!

But true, sometimes pieces such as the star pod and the banana fronds can be a little hard to find on your own. Good news! Certain specialty shops carry them! My favorite @sunnysidegardensmn and their beautiful shop, in shop @trillboutiquemn carries an ever changing assortment of cool curiosities from the earth. Stop in to see what they have to offer! IMO every home needs something where friends say “how cool! What is that!”

Did you know that late summer and early fall are one of the best times to plant perennials. The sun is less intense and the ground is still nice and warm. Plus there’s still plenty of time for them to take root before the ground freezes. Just make sure you’re not planting on a day that’s too hot!

Start with a nice big hole, loosen up the roots, work in some compost and sprinkle in some water before you put your new plant in its spot. Remember to water your new plants daily for the next few weeks so they can get established before winter!

Currently, I’m planting Japanese Forest Grass
aka Hakone Grass. I love it’s chartreuse flowing leaves. And it adds such a beautiful texture to the garden.

Thanks to my friends at @sunnysidegardensmn for having such a great selection and for being such a great partner with me! Plus, with so much time left to add I’ll be heading over there to grab several more plants before it’s time to wrap it up for the season.

Do you have more planting to do this season?

Going out for me means heading out to the yard to plant, replant, move something to a new spot or water my ever growing collection of plants! Thats my kind of fun!

I love to have specific spaces for different types such as annuals for shade, annuals for sun. Perennials for shade, perennials for sun! Tropicals! And my newest obsession plants for attracting pollinators!

What’s your favorite type of plant for outside? Always a thank you to my friends @sunnysidegardensmn for having an amazing selection of exciting plants to choose from!

I love an organic natural look in our yard and especially by our pool. But for some reason it’s like ten degrees hotter there. I love to add some potted plants but for most it’s too hot! The solution has always been tall wavy grasses. They can tolerate the heat and tolerate me forgetting to water them! I like to choose perennial varieties so at the end of summer I can add them to our landscape and enjoy them next year.

When planting our larger containers we always add some styrofoam or plastic bottles to the bottom of the pots to cut down on the amount of soil and for drainage. Don’t forget to score or separate the roots of new plants to encourage growth. These grasses will get large quickly and I love the natural way they look. Make sure to check back to see how they’ve grown in a few weeks!

Thanks @sunnysidegardensmn for always having such a great selection of beautiful plants!

So many gorgeous and perfect patios out here on IG, but not mine. Mine is woodsy, messy and constantly working. Think Zoe Kravitz patio on “Big Little Lies”. Definitely a boho vibe! I am always clipping something, changing something moving something and trying new things. And occasionally sometimes I’ll just sit here and do absolutely nothing! Here you’ll never find something trending or a perfectly matching furniture set. What you will find is an ever-changing assortment of beautiful plants, driftwood, a table Spencer chewed on when he was a puppy, candles and cozy lightweight blankets from far away places!

And as for me, this is where you’ll find me as long as the weather allows.

A shoutout to my friends @sunnysidegardensmn for providing a bunch of my gorgeous plants! They are always the star of the show!

When we put in our pool our side yard garden got trashed from the heavy equipment going in and out.

It’s a really pretty space so my goal is to get it looking great again this season. Some of my new perennials won’t bloom this season so I wanted some color in this space. The perfect solution was to add a large planter as an anchor. I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on annuals that would just get tossed at the end of the season so I chose a combination of annuals and some perennials that I’ll transfer to the garden in the fall.
Here’s what I used:
✨ Tropical gold canna (this can come inside and will grow again next season)
✨Three Flambé Yellow Chrysocephalum Apiculatum aka Jersey Cudweed (some plants have the worst names). This is an annual in our area
✨Two Bronze Carpet Stonecrop Sedum - Perennial
✨One Bittersweet Nightshade. Careful, this one is toxic to pets and you shouldn’t eat it either
✨Two New Guinea Impatiens in dark Orange
All of my lovely plants came from my friends @sunnysidegardensmn
Stay tuned as this space transforms!

Open kitchen shelving, depending on who’s talking about it can be either amazing or out of style! For me, it’s still a great look in the kitchen provided that it’s both functional and decorative . There is no denying that open shelves could look cluttered or messy quite easily. But, depending on the amount of space you have it’s nice if you can make it useful as well as pretty. It’s a great place for things you use frequently
