ERD stands for Earth Returns Distortion, and names both a range of eurorack audio synthesis modules which address the materiality and ecology of both analogue and digital electronics, as well as a specific series of modules (ERD/ERD) which make use of the occult and material properties of earth from specific global sites or locations.
For The Elements Issue, @microresearchxx presents ERD/ERD as an electro-alchemical essay or grimoire, weaving together threads and fragments, quotations, and altered found texts. Select excerpts from this work have previously appeared in Becoming Geological (V2 Publishing) and T.E.H (xxxxx).

MIMETIKA is a collection of sculptural works by @willmerante exploring the dynamics of mimicry and disguise through fashion, beauty, and the evolving relationship between individuals and their surroundings. The pieces give rise to pseudo-idols, emerging from the tension between the superficial allure of replication and the innate drive for survival shaped by observation.

“My research has pointed to sound and form as being completely interrelated. A shape can represent a sound and a sound can represent a shape. And within that, at a more esoteric level, a sound can make a shape and a shape, therefore, can make a sound.
So if we are clever with geometry, and I was gonna say sacred geometry but all geometry is sacred really, geometry like mathematics it is the language of truth. If we’re clever with geometry and sound, we can influence the space that we live in.”

For The Elements Issue, Translight presents a conversation between cultural critic Nicola De Marinis and Jakub Koziol, creator of Little Alchemy. The interview positions the browser game as a compact “epistemology engine,” where a drag-and-drop interface stages the logic of scientific discovery: more than 580 elements unfold from the four classical forces, each new combination expanding the very space of the possible. This process constructs a semantic universe in which every icon must remain instantly legible yet culturally situated, exposing the tension between universal symbols and local meanings. De Marinis reads the game’s empowerment loop—agency that grows as one’s combinatory reach expands—through a post-phenomenological lens. Ultimately, the dialogue frames Little Alchemy as a digital cabinet of curiosities that makes ontology playable, turning ludic experimentation into a method of knowing.
