Macaca Fuscata - Macaques are omnivorous, and they possess large cheek pouches in which they carry extra food. Breeding occurs year-round in some (mostly tropical) species, but, among those living outside the tropics, it is seasonal. Single young are born after about six months’ gestation and become adult at four years. Japanese macaques, also called Japanese snow macaques or simply snow monkeys, are found on three of the four main Japanese islands—Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu—and live further north than any other macaque species. Those that occupy the northernmost regions, which range through the forested mountains and highlands of Japan, thrive in winter temperatures that fall as low as -5 degrees F (-15 degrees C) and with snow cover that is more than 3 ft (1 m) deep. “Bee Condo” was built to provide nesting sites for native New Zealand bees. Most native bees are solitary and use small cavities in wood, stems and other natural materials to lay their eggs and raise their young.

New Zealand has 28 types of native bees.

Hagley Park once had a huge tree nursery. 🌳
