A public record should protect human dignity. When 33-year-old Black trans woman Persia Amarra Conway was found dead near Houston's Brays Bayou, early reports left her unidentified. It was her grieving family who stepped forward to restore her name, her gender, and the truth of her beautiful life to the narrative.

Her mother, Michelle P. Simmons, remembers Persia as "a light," "a force," and a deeply loved daughter who deserved to chase her dreams and grow old.

South Grand Prairie High School canceled every performance of Little Shop of Horrors after a girl was cast as the male lead.

The student said auditions were gender-blind. Students didn’t audition for specific parts; the director assigned roles based on who would best serve the production.

The Texas school cited a law banning “sexually oriented performances” where minors might be present. “This isn’t about drag at all,” the student said. The cancellation leaves the entire cast without a fall show because a girl was chosen to play a boy.

Kendrick Bates’ wife demanded officers take their hands off her husband as one held a hand around his neck and Texas police chief Aaron Burleson grabbed his pants.

They violently restrained Kendrick against his truck in his own driveway. Police accused him of running two stop signs and issued a citation without arresting him.

“I’m the police chief, so deal with me,” Burleson declared. The city has launched an investigation, and Kendrick plans to sue. That review must examine the chief’s own actions alongside the other officer’s conduct.

Jonathan McKinsey was a father of three, a trans man, and an engineering leader at New York Times Games. He was 40 when he was shot to death in a Dublin, California parking lot.

Before his death, Jonathan had already told the court about anti-trans abuse inside his family. He said his mother-in-law used anti-LGBTQ+ slurs against him and one of his children, and that his father-in-law punched him in the chest while he was recovering from gender-affirming chest surgery.
