This is a photo I’ve wanted for many years and I am excited not only to have the opportunity to get it but also to share it. When I set out 9 months ago and told people about my plan to ride to Magadan most of them looked at me like I was insane, and maybe I am a little. The infamous Road of Bones for many people is the ultimate test in riding ability, stamina and determination. The road itself is difficult, it is extremely desolate which means you are on your own if something happens and the weather is unpredictable which can leave you in some very uncomfortable situations. Add to these facts that I was starting this road after having already covered 30,000+ miles over the previous 9 months and would be doing it on a bike that most said was impossible to do it on I felt the need more then ever to take on the challenge. I couldn’t be happier to be here and to have met so many amazing people along the way. Many of these people played a pivotal role in some form or another in helping to make this possible, you know who you are, so to all of you…thank you!!!!

This bike was almost entirely hand built by @joshua8787 with the exception of the frame which was built by Faith Forgotten Choppers. The thought behind this bike was to build a rad chopper that could handle the rigors of long range travel. The larger tank means less fuel stops, everything is slightly overbuilt for durability and the minimizing of “impossible to find” parts means easier roadside repairs. It has an S&S 111ci motor paired to a Baker 6spd transmission which will get you down the road in a hustle! Every detail on this bike has been thought through and tested.
With only about 4,000 total miles on this machine I’d categorize it as perfectly broken in. Feel free to reach out with any questions or stop by @grandudesmotoshop in Longmont, Colorado to see it in person. Asking price is $25k or best offer.

As it turns out, I did have some regret about stripping the paint off my bike during the last rebuild. Specifically, I really hated that I stripped all of the country stickers I had collected along my journeys off of the fork legs. Each sticker told a story and served as a reminder of just how fortunate I am to be able to travel as much as I do. I was able to look at each sticker and remember where I was when I found it and relive that moment in my head. In an effort to recreate some of that history I recruited non other than the endlessly talented @lildamestripes . Beth has been an integral part of every version of this motorcycle and once again has exceeded what I thought was possible. by @travelingchopper

Wow, what a weekend in Emporia, Kansas. I participated in the @unboundgravel 200 mile gravel race, it was my second gravel race ever and the longest cycling race I’ve ever done. Period. Even during the many years of road racing we would never race that far. Lessons were learned for sure. From the gun it was pretty chaotic. Lots of crashes (got tangled up in two of them), lots of people getting flats and breaking bikes and lots of people just hanging on. Needless to say I went out way too hard chasing back to the front group after the second crash when I should have let them go. My pacing strategy went out the window pretty quick and I paid for it dearly at about mile 160 and I severely underestimated how technical a lot of the roads would be. I’m not a mountain biker so when the road got sketchy and terrible I struggled to keep up. My finish time of 12hrs 46minutes was considerably slower than expected (was hoping for close to 11hrs) but ultimately I’m happy with the finish and, as luck would have it, I was able to finish with my friend Evan. For anyone out there who finished, pat yourself on the back. That was a massive accomplishment no matter what your time was. Also a big thank you to @acargas for supporting us at the feed zones, that was a monumental help! So, start training for next year?

Another weekend, another athletic endeavor. This past weekend we were in St George, Utah for the Ironman 70.3. Everything went about as expected. The swim was freezing cold but I handled it better than I thought I would. The bike course was challenging and I finished it just about where I thought I would, if not a touch faster than expected given the amount of climbing. By the time we got to the run it was blazing hot, 96 degrees, a temperature we are not used to yet but I got through it just fine and finished overall with a time of 6hrs 15min 43seconds. I keep saying I’ll never do another one but I think I could do sub 6 hrs with a little more effort…we will see.

After a many, many year break from bicycle racing I dipped my toe back in the pond this last weekend and tried my hand and gravel racing. After having really only ever raced on the road I had no idea what I was getting into. The event was the @desertgravel CO2UT 125. It’s a 125 mile gravel race from Fruita, CO into Utah and back. The route is challenging. Rocks, sand, hills and holes constantly keep you on your toes. I finished 14th overall and 3rd in my age group with a time of 6hrs 58min 54seconds. I met some good people like @elciclistacomun and got to spend the weekend with my friends @acargas and Evan. Next on the schedule is the Unbound 200 mile gravel race in Emporia, KS!

I realize I haven’t posted in a very long time and it isn’t because I haven’t been doing things but simply because I just haven’t felt like sharing anything for whatever reason. However, this past weekend @kaylakoeune , @bdahm21 and myself completed the @ironmantri in Cozumel and it feels like something I’d like to share. It took a monumental amount of training and effort to complete and I honestly feel pretty proud of it. My time of 13hrs and 27minutes is not exactly a record breaker but I learned so much and now see how I could do it much quicker next time. A great experience all in all and couldn’t be happier to have completed it!

Back on the road and heading to @choptown_az ! The bike isn’t 100% done but it sure feels good to be back on it. A quick trip to Arizona and back and then hand her back off to @kaylakoeune to finish the paint!

This 1977 FLH recently found its way into our garage which I find pretty exciting. First step of course is to get it running but on the fence as to plans after that. What do you think, chop it or restore it?

I mean, who doesn’t like a good tunnel?! So, good news, I’m heading to @dustin.werner1 next week to start putting the ol motor pickle back together! It’s been painted (the base coat anyway), motors been rebuilt and other things have happened so soon we will be back on the road!
