well fu@k me - I reherniated a disc in my spine and it’s left my right leg numb. Not paralyzed this time, but bad enough that I needed an emergency laminectomy & discectomy.

Going back in for spine surgery when that leg already has permanent nerve damage is daunting. The procedure is minimally invasive, thankfully - but anytime you’re that close to the spinal cord, the margin for error is zero.

I won’t lie: I’m scared of what my new normal might be. I’ve lived for sports - run Boston, done a full Ironman, swam from Alcatraz, and won a handful snowboard contests. The thought of not competing again is what scares me most. But I’ve also come back from worse - last time I was fully paralyzed in this leg, and I clawed my way back.

Right before that surgery in 2020, I claimed I’d do a Half Ironman one year later. One of the biggest claims I’ve ever made. I did it, one year to the day.

So here’s the new one: 1 year from today, I’m going to summit Mt. Whitney - the tallest mountain in the lower 48.

I don’t know where I’ll be when I wake up. But you can bet I’m putting everything I’ve got into reaching that summit. 🏔️

I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m scared of this procedure. No sleep tonight 🤕

🚨EMERGENCY DELIVERY🚨 While snowboarding @palisadestahoe Jonathan got the call that there was a hungry pup on the mountain. This was a true mission impossible to get Camper 🐶 his dinner but Jonathan sprung into action and now Camper can be fueled up for their next rescue.

Happy 1st Birthday Timber Pup 🎉

Timber is a rescue pup abandoned in the wilderness near Mt. Hood, OR. He was found emaciated and weighed only 20lbs. Jonathan adopted Timber when he was 7 months old and nursed him back to health. Now Timber weighs almost 50lbs and gets to be a puppy living his best life! Plus, he gets all the goodpup he wants… His favorite dinner is our steak & sweet potato recipe.

Timber is a mix breed - Canadian Inuit Dog / Alaskan Husky

We have some ambitious goals with Good Pup and one of them is saving the planet. We’re a member of the @atconservationfund, an international organization protecting threatened communities, cultures, and wild places to preserve their cultural and recreational integrity.

One of our co-founders, Jonathan, has volunteered with them for the past 7 years and has helped raised close to $700,000 to fund grassroots conservation projects around the world. Now having Good Pup we contribute an annual membership fee to support the amazing projects they support.

As a member we get to nominate projects we think deserve funding and this year we nominated to support the creation of the Bahsahwahbee National Monument in Eastern Nevada. This project will help protect over 25,000 acres and help share the history and culture of the indigenous peoples. It’s pretty crazy to think your local fresh dog food company might have a tiny part in making a National Monument in our home state.🤞this project will get funded.

At the Adventure Travel Conservation Fund (ATCF), we believe in the power of travel to protect and conserve. we believe that all travelers and the global travel community can become stewards of the planet. Founded by businesses in the adventure travel and outdoor industries, the ATCF membership is dedicated to protecting threatened communities, cultures, and wild places to preserve their cultural and recreational integrity. Our members are adventure travel and outdoor industry leaders who have come together and stepped forward to advocate and support projects that allow sustainable adventure tourism to grow into the future.

Winters in the PNW are pretty savage 🥶 and there are way too many people out there suffering in the middle of it. Figured I’d try to make a few of their days with some winter gear, food, water, and toiletries.

I only share this stuff about 5-10% of the time I do it because it’s just something I do for myself but sometimes it’s a good reminder that life is really tough for some people and it doesn’t take much to help someone. Plus, you will feel like a total boss when you see the differences you can make.

You can fight 👊homelessness or you can fight ❤️ homelessness.

Speaking on NFTs, these are the race medals I made into NFTs for the inaugural Pizza Tri 70.3 triathlon. I created the event for a few reasons but one of them was to be the first race to offer NFTs as medals. I also used this opportunity to teach people about blockchain and made a bunch of educational content for everyone who participated to bring the barrier for new tech down. Another thing I did different was instead of giving out places I gave awards for the friendliest, most courageous and one to the final finisher.

How pumped would you be to get this after a race?

Thanks to my tri club, @gosgltg, for all the support in making this event happen! We have such a solid crew of all levels of athletes.

Today Bella turns 17!!! To celebrate she asked me to design her an NFT to raise money for her animal friends at PAWS. Our goal is to sell 17 of them and the price is .03 ETH ($100ish).
