Rich’s Annual : I HATE SUMMER rant ‘The 2026 edition’

it’s fucking August.

nobody wants to visit an outdoor wine tasting room when the extreme heat is challenging the rectal temperature of Satan’s butthole.

I was 2 blocks away from mi casa on my way to the winery when I gotta text that the obscene weather warranted another closure.

fine….my tanks empty. I need gas. I need coffee. I need stuff for dinner. I will take care of it all and retreat back to central air conditioning and watch Guy Fieri reruns, play online poker and drink Mexican beer…not in that particular order but all bases touched.

as I pulled into the gas station I noticed that in the last 10 minutes the temperature had gone from 99 degrees to 102 and it wasn’t even noon….this perturbed me.

as a regular Kroger’s customer who brings his own grocery bags I typed in my discount code to receive .30 cents off a gallon which reduced the cost to only $5.39 a gallon.

SUPER STOKED that it only cost me a C-note to fill my tank.

got home in a less than USA! USA! USA! mood. went upstairs, took a piss and snapped a angry Rich pic in the water closet selfie.

doorbell rang.
Rosconi Baloney & Joey Ramoney go into full doggie mental patient barking mode.

I open the door to find a scurrying postal worker and a long triangle package on the door step.

…it was the highlight of a miserable day.

the new WHOLE HÖG 4x12 Marshall cabinet grille cover….sometimes it’s the little things in life that get us thru.

So yeah, dinner.

A tale of backyard farm to table with a detour to the freezer, to a winery and to dinner actually finally hitting the table.

Outside of mid-mall snacking, in my opinion dinner is the benchmark of the 3 daily meal options….with exceptions, of course.

So yeah, the plan was to visit a favorite local winery on Friday. Pick up a bottle of Rousanne and make a goddamn dinner that pairs with it. Use only things we already have on hand and ya got 24 hours to do it if you choose to accept the mission.

1. Gardens gotta metric shit ton of Basil: duh, Pesto likes Rousanne
2. Box of Snow Crab clusters in the freezer: yeah, that’s friends with Rousanne too
3, Bone-in/skin on chicken thighs: if the skin gets crispy as fuck in the sauté it’s BFF with crab, the pesto and the wine
4. Got some scratch made Semolina/Ricotta Cavatelli in the freezer that’s best friends with the Basil Pesto, the Snow Crab & The crispy Chicken Thighs but most importantly wants to GET IT ON with the Rousanne.

…..with minimal prep involved I only had time for a half a glass of wine and only one sensible Marlboro cigarette before plating it all up and serving.

Side note: I had a decent hand sized leftover of shelled crab smothered in butter. I knew it probably wasn’t gonna find its way into anything before ending up in the trash so I lovingly doled it out to Rosconi Baloney & Joey Ramoney during dinner….probably not a lotta dogs got that for a treat in Te-MAGA-La tonight.

I ❤️ Burrito Monday at Casa de Travers like a fat kid loves Halloween.

4th of July found a big ol’ Tri-Tip on the ol’ smoker.

6th of July found a Tri-Tip, Frijoles, Arroz, Elote, Guacamole, Mango/Habanero salsa y Cotija Queso……Burrito

well, if you’re in the Temecula wine region and just wanna have fun with 2 surly guys who kinda hate everybody then you’ve found your home….and when it comes to music you’ll get NO COUNTRY…for old men at this tasting room.

So we played an all day punk rawk chili dog festival at the legendary Tower Bar this afternoon.

We were the creamy rock n roll center of a punk sandwich.

It was a sea of punk loving booze swilling crust punks and surprisingly they seemed to enjoy us.

….what’s not to enjoy?

(even gotta new band photo out of it.
give a warm welcome to our new drummer Sarah Von Valkyrie.
but there was no way I was eatin’ one of them goddamn chili dogs.
and we did make a point to notice the sign that instructed the bands not to crowd the soundboard with their gear….but us seeking punk rawk cred proceeded to crowd the fuck outta that soundboard with all our gear)

for the random friend who thinks…when’s my buddy Rich playing with his stupid band?

‘I’d really like to see what he’s up to.
I just can’t commit to going out on a skool nite and watch him drink and smoke til the wee hours before him and his bandmates get up on the stage and destroy my eardrums for a half an hour.
