There are very few things in my life I’ve loved longer than the New York Knicks. And 90% of the time, the New York Knicks didn’t love me back. I prayed before draft lotteries and watched Kevin Knox in summer league. I used to post in the comment section of Posting and Toasting and started a soccer podcast that is structurally a rip off of Knicks Film School. I legitimately believed in Frank Ntlikina. I got to take my niece and nephew to their first Knicks game. Some of my final memories with my father are watching the Knicks with him in his hospital room to take our minds off the horror. I went to games alone.

I saw Paul Pierce bow center court at MSG and I saw the Donte Double Bang in person. I spent a full year saying “you trying to get the pipe?” I had a Tyson Chandler jersey and a Metta World Peace jersey and an Alonzo Trier jersey and a Stephon Marbury jersey and a Pablo Prigioni jersey and a Raymond Felton jersey. I went on very long walks to stop myself from having panic attacks after bad games. I got to boo Donald Trump at the NBA Finals. I saw them play in Vegas and Miami and Los Angeles and MSG. I got to hug my friends and my family and cry legitimate tears over a game I had zero control over.

There were so many dark days where I wondered why I ever invested this much energy in a team that might not ever repay me. Where I looked at all the evidence and it pointed directly at giving up hope. But the New York Knicks taught me that hope doesn’t require evidence. Hope only requires hope.
