This week, I spoke to @travishorn , Founder and Executive Director of @legacyprosthetics He began as a photojournalist on medical missions, then built a field-ready system designed to deliver prosthetic legs outside traditional laboratories.

One breath.

And then the light disappears.

There’s a strange moment underwater when you stop knowing exactly which way is up, how deep you are, or how much time has passed.

Suspended in time.

Light. Shadow. Rock. Water. Silence.

There is fear down there. There has to be. The practice isn’t pretending it doesn’t exist. It’s staying calm enough to move through it.

That’s one of the things freediving keeps teaching me.

Less force. More trust.
Less thinking. More feeling.
Less doing. More being.

And eventually, light again.

One breath. One dive. One moment completely alive. 💧

Third grade, just like that. ❤️

Pierce, I am so incredibly proud of you.

One of my favorite moments this year was studying together for the spelling bee. There were moments when it felt challenging, but instead of giving up, you learned a new way to approach the problem, trusted the process, and kept going. Watching that hard work turn into a spelling bee victory was one of the highlights of my year. 🏆

From chess games and music, to yoga, family, and visiting the OPC prosthetics clinic, I’ve loved watching you grow with every new experience.

What makes me proud isn’t just what you’ve accomplished. It’s your curiosity, watching you learn, your courage, your kindness, and your big heart.

Being your dad is the greatest privilege of my life.

Congratulations on an amazing third-grade year. I love you, buddy. ❤️.

Every patient we meet has a story.

This gentleman is a bilateral amputee.

He lost one leg above the knee and the other below the knee as a result of complications from diabetes.

What many people don’t realize is that diabetes is one of the leading causes of limb loss worldwide. Too often, the disease quietly damages circulation and healing capacity until a small wound becomes a life changing event.

But this story is not about what was lost.

It’s about what is still possible.

With determination, rehabilitation, and access to prosthetic care, our patient is working toward greater mobility, independence, and quality of life.

These photos capture more than a fitting appointment. They capture hope, teamwork, and the moment someone begins to see a path forward again.

At Legacy Prosthetics, this is why we do what we do.

Today, 14 amputees in Mérida, Mexico are waiting for care through our next medical mission. Our goal is to raise $14,000 to provide prosthetic legs, rehabilitation support, and follow up care for these patients.

Every donation, every introduction, and every share helps restore mobility, dignity, and independence.
