This was absolutely terrifying. Imagine taking your whole family to Italy (wife, our 2 boys and brought my in-laws to babysit for date nights I had planned). I heard a boom and didn’t think much of it at first. Kinda sounded like landing gear retracting. I was in and out of sleep. I did wonder why because we were an hour from our destination. I thought that was strange. I looked out the window and saw what looked like flames. My first thought was flames but I also saw the sky was kind of the same color so I just wrote it off as I’m tired. Then all the lights in the plane went out. I hear people screaming and crying. My wife looks over at me and tells me she loves me. The whole time I’m trying to keep my composure while my mind is racing and figure out the best strategy in the event of impact because I have my two year old next to me and my wife and my other son in the seats next to us and my in-laws behind us. All you can think about in that moment is protecting your family. The look on the flight attendants faces I won’t ever forget. Flight attendants were scared and they were seen praying too. The airplane pilots put 7700 in the com frequency and declared an emergency. We were just over the Atlantic when this happened. I’m aware of Etops training. Yes these can fly with one engine and land with one engine yet passengers and staff were in panic mode. Who wouldn’t be. Not sure how fire survived that long at 37K feet. I took this at a hidden beach in Kauai. Kauai is by far the most Hawaiian experience out of all the islands. It’s also one of the whitest islands I’ve ever been to in Hawaii and I’m from Oahu originally. by @traviskealoha
