New signs, new adventures, and a big win for responsible recreation in Idaho!

On September 17, Tread Lightly! joined alongside 25 volunteers and partners to install three educational kiosks at Twin Peaks Ranch State Park, Idaho’s newest state park!

Featuring trail maps, recreation guidelines, and local history, these kiosks will help visitors navigate the park and explore responsibly for years to come.

A huge thank you to Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, Right Rider Access Fund, onX Offroad, Snake River Offroaders, and Twin Peaks Ranch State Park for making this project possible!

The Defender Tailgate Rack is one of those upgrades that makes sense whether you’re building a rally truck or simply heading out for a weekend camping trip. For Liza and Jenna, it’s an essential part of our Rebelle Rally setup, giving us a secure, accessible place for MaxTrax recovery boards, a fire extinguisher, and a floor jack without sacrificing access to the spare tire.

The rack keeps MaxTrax at an easy-to-reach height and provides a perfect spot for a whip flag when we’re navigating the dunes. But the same features make it incredibly useful for everyday adventures—keeping recovery gear, tools, or other bulky equipment organized and accessible while leaving valuable cargo space inside the Defender.

Whether you’re tackling a rally course, exploring a remote trail, or simply setting up camp for the weekend, the ability to carry more gear without blocking access to your spare tire makes this rack a practical addition to any Defender.

Trick or T.R.E.A.D.?

Don't let your favorite trails become a ghost story!

Whether you're hitting the trails, exploring the backcountry or enjoying your favorite public lands, remember to follow the T.R.E.A.D. Principles:

🎃 Travel Responsibly

👻 Respect the Rights of Others

🕸️ Educate Yourself

🦇 Avoid Sensitive Areas

🍬 Do Your Part

The only thing scarier than a haunted trail is one we can no longer enjoy. Do your part to keep our public lands beautiful, healthy and accessible for generations to come! by @treadlightlyteam

We want to say a HUGE thank you to all the volunteers, partners and sponsors that made the Bartlett Flats Cleanup such an awesome success! With more than 100 volunteers coming out and removing over 1,400 pounds of trash we are extremely happy with how it all went!

We want to say one more massive thank you to @thebluernr for all of time and dedication she poured into setting up and executing the event! Thanks to @get1ost_jtr for all of his help planning and doing all the cooking for over 100 people! And last but not least, thank you to these companies who donated to this event (many of whom actually showed up to help out in person) and helped make it possible!:

The @treadlightlyteam wrapped up our training tour of AZ today in Flagstaff!

Yesterday we toured @kchilites a valued partner and today we headed down FR535 to get our eyes on the Pocket Fire burn scar. @arizona_plasma our kiosk fabricators joined us as well to get to know the new team.
We checked on our two kiosks, assessed water shed changes, cleaned up an abandoned camp, identified new sites for educational kiosks, and had a great time doing it.
Some of our most important partners are our land managers!! The team got to learn some tricks of the trade and how to earn trust with those land managers.

A few noises in the jeep we needed to investigate along the way lol

All and all a great day! Cheers to @treadlightlyteam and safe travels home tomorrow! 2027 will be our best year yet! by @treadlightlyteam

Another project in the books!

On October 23, the Tread Lightly! team joined forces with @valleytoyota, @tral_az, and @azstateparks to install new educational kiosks at Log Corral and Mesquite in the @tontonationalforest! 🌵

This project was extra special as all of our Tread Lightly! Program Managers and Executive Director came together for hands-on training and teamwork to help improve responsible recreation education and protect access to the places we love to explore.

A huge THANK YOU to Valley Toyota Dealers for funding this project and to all our partners for helping make it possible!

Together, we're making a lasting impact on Arizona's trails and public lands.

Now that we’ve had a handful of heavy monsoon storms, it’s smart to remember that the trails out there might not be quite the same as they were a few months ago. Heavy rain and flash flooding can drastically change the landscape. Ruts get deeper, rock gardens shift, new washouts may pop up, old ones might have grown and washes may look completely different than they did last time you were out.

Even trails you know well, like Pyeatt, Sunflower, Log Corral, and 42 can see new erosion, washouts, or debris from upstream. Take it slow on your first run back after big storms. Scout obstacles before committing, and be mindful that what used to be a mild line might now be undercut or off-camber.

If you come across damage or sections that are no longer passable, don’t try to make a new bypass, this only widens the trail and adds to the problem. Report major issues to local land managers or volunteer groups so they can be addressed properly.

Post-monsoon wheeling can be some of the best of the year. Cooler temps, clear air, and green desert make for a great time to get out, just make sure you’re adapting to the changes the storms leave behind and understanding it might not go how you expected. by @treadlightlyteam

Since last Thursday @treadlightlyteam Program Managers have been training in Arizona!
Friday we started out with Kiosk installs in the @tontonationalforest thanks to partnerships with @valleytoyota and @azstateparks! Since then we have supported a major cleanup at Bartlett Lake with @tral_az. We ended our evening with a recovery thanks to @wildwestorr !!

We then joined @arizonapubliclands for a site tour of the shooting site area that TL! is leading efforts on!
We are now in Flagstaff and excited to introduce our new crew to @kchilites and the Coconino!
Stay tuned for more pics! It’s been a blast building the best team ever! by @treadlightlyteam

Most people who cause damage outdoors probably did not set out to do it.

Good intentions are a start, but accurate information turns them into better decisions about legal routes, seasonal closures, sensitive soil and marked boundaries.

Tread Lightly! began within the U.S. Forest Service in 1985 and became an independent national nonprofit in 1990.

That history makes the Chief’s Award especially meaningful. Our work continues to connect responsible recreation with caring for the public lands we enjoy.
