Please have grace with me as I filmed this at 3:33am after some of the worst hours of my life.

Happy ART WALK! We have SURPASSED our goal of $4k. The “displacement fees” are COVERED ✅ and our community is still donating meals, extremely discounted rooms, and countless other forms of support. THANK YOU 🙏🏼 all of your offers are not going unnoticed. We are just trying to respond to all of them!! 🫶🏼🎨🖼️ by @treasurestatehostel

“We’re a lot stronger than you say we are… And you know it, don’t you?”
— A Bug’s Life, 1998

There’s power in numbers. There’s power in community. F*ck the grasshoppers. 🐛🦋🐜🪲🐞

Eleven years ago, we bought our space and opened Treasure State Hostel beneath Crossroads, a quiet home goods store that closed at 5 p.m. The restaurant upstairs came many years later.

Since then, we’ve experienced repeated flooding, interrupted business, and now another closure following their upstairs fire. We’re still closed, with no reopening date in sight.

“Why don’t you just move?” Because finding another downtown Bozeman space that can accommodate 40 guests, at a price that lets us keep beds starting at $24 a night, isn’t that simple. We’ve spent 11 years building something worth staying for.

And our ant army keeps reminding us we’re not standing alone. 🫶🏼🐜

Please keep thinking about WHERE you spend your money. The owners of the restaurant upstairs also own several other bars and restaurants in the Gallatin Valley. Different names on the doors can still mean the same owners behind them.

Being locally owned matters. How you treat your neighbors matters, too. Support businesses whose owners show up for their community.

These bugs ain’t giving up. 🏠💜✊🏼

Heartbroken all over again. How is this possible??? We haven’t even done DEMO. We will still be closed for MONTHS TO COME. And they reopened today. This isn’t right. 💔❤️‍🩹 by @treasurestatehostel

Mark your calendars! 📆 ONE MONTH FROM TODAY! We can’t thank @texasroadhouse enough for putting this fundraiser on for us 🥰🥹🫶🏼🥩🍞 come have dinner at the Bozeman location on Monday, Nov. 23rd, mention this flyer and help us reopen our hostel! 🍴 by @treasurestatehostel

Shkodër, Albania filled my heart in more ways than I can express. The people, the culture, the food and my hostel community made this part of my European trip something I will never forget. So incredibly grateful 🇦🇱🫶🏼✨

Hostel update: we STILL haven’t made any sort of progress on the physical part of our building. With a scheduled professional third party fire inspection scheduled for later this week, we hope to have more movement with insurance and physical repairs in the next week or two but I will keep you posted! Thank you all for the love and support during my journey to two hostel conferences in Europe while navigating the current situation of our hostel in Bozeman 💜🏠 by @treasurestatehostel

PSA: It’s cool to care. It’s cool to try. And it’s cool to ask for help. 💜✨

Oktoberfest at Gute Laune: raising steins and funds to get us back open. Thank you to our community for showing up last night. Our cups—and hearts—runneth over 🍻🫶🏼🇩🇪 by @treasurestatehostel

Tomorrow marks 3 weeks since our upstairs neighbors had a fire and Treasure State Hostel was flooded.

Three weeks.

And somehow, we haven’t even started the actual demolition yet.

We haven’t opened up the ceilings. We haven’t torn into the walls. We haven’t started removing and rebuilding the parts of the hostel we already know were severely damaged by water.

Not because we’re sitting around waiting.

Because apparently before you can tear apart a ceiling, several insurance companies must first gather around it and decide who would like to pay for said ceiling. 🙃

We never thought we’d find ourselves yearning for last year at this time, when life was simpler and “just a flood” from the same upstairs neighbors was somehow easier to navigate than a much more complicated fire… then flood.

So here we are.

Three weeks in. Still closed, still navigating insurance, still documenting, still answering questions, still trying to move things forward — and becoming increasingly aware that this is going to be a long road.

BUT.

This week, we are going to Europe.

Maybe literally. Maybe figuratively. 🤣

Our actual trip to Europe for two hostel conferences — planned and paid for long before any of this happened — is hopefully 5 days away, assuming we can get enough handled here to actually get on the plane.

But first…

OKTOBERFEST IS TWO DAYS AWAY! 🍻🥨🇩🇪

Our friends and community are bringing a little piece of Europe to Bozeman with an Oktoberfest fundraiser for Treasure State Hostel. @gutelaunebozeman

So whether we make it across the Atlantic next week or not, apparently we’re going to Europe one way or another.

And after the last three weeks?

We’ll take it.

Come have a beer, eat something delicious, celebrate with us, support the hostel, and remind us that even when the rebuilding hasn’t technically started yet, moving forward can look like a lot of different things.

This is going to take time. We still need help. And we are nowhere near the end of this — hell, we haven’t even really begun yet.

But we’re still here.

And two days from now, we’re putting on our dirndls and lederhosen. 🍻🥨

See you at Oktoberfest. by @treasurestatehostel

We donated this new banner & poster to the @treasurestatehostel as they continue their repair efforts from recent floods. Design and printed in 48hrs ⚡️ We take pride in being local, helping local, and supporting local!

Because the establishment who caused these floods is not taking responsibility, if there’s anything you can do to help or donate…they have a form you can fill or message me and I’ll send the link! #SupportLocal 🫶 by @treasurestatehostel

🌍 𝟭𝟭 𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗦 𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗟 𝗘𝗨𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘… 𝗠𝗔𝗬𝗕𝗘. 🤞😂

Long before the fire and flood that closed Treasure State Hostel, I had plans to head to Europe on October 5 for two hostel conferences — learning, connecting with hostel people from around the world, and bringing new ideas home to TSH.

Obviously, A LOT has changed.

And here’s the part I genuinely could not make up:

𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭, 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐀𝐋𝐒𝐎 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠. ⚠️#bozeman #hostel

Yes.

Two years.
Two conferences.
Two completely separate floods.

Apparently attending the Hostelworld Conference while my hostel is closed from flooding is becoming an annual tradition I very much did not ask for. 🙃

And because our circumstances have changed so dramatically since this trip was planned, I want to be completely transparent:

💜 This trip was planned and paid for before the fire/flood.

💜 Money donated toward Treasure State Hostel’s recovery is NOT funding this trip.

Your support is going where you intended it to go: helping TSH and our people recover and work toward reopening.

But there’s one more important detail:

I still don’t know if I’m actually going. 😂

There is A LOT that needs to happen here between now and October 5th, and Treasure State Hostel has to come first.

So…

Welcome to our slightly unconventional countdown.

11 days to see if we can get enough accomplished that I can actually get on that plane.

Current Europe status:

👉 🟡 IT’S COMPLICATED
🔴 Staying home

Fingers crossed. 🤞💜 by @treasurestatehostel

There is always enough to go around, as long as we don’t hoard or heist 🫶🏼

Grateful for my community, both near and far. 💜

One week since the fire and flood that closed us. We have a long way to go so please don’t forget about us on this journey https://forms.gle/w4dMjgnnLAZA49EaA #bozeman #hostel #downtownbozeman by @treasurestatehostel
