My Brother, My Heart

I still hear your laugh—low, quiet,

the kind that crept up slow,

but shook the walls when it broke loose.

You always played it cool,

until that one night,

you said you could outdrink me—

and then,

oh man,

you painted the sidewalk and the backseat.

Mom and Dad drove you home,

but you wore that grin like a badge.

You were the quiet one,

the gentle one—

wouldn’t hurt a fly,

unless that fly came for me.

Then your fire showed.

Still water, deep steel.

A go-getter. A rule-breaker,

when it was convenient,

and somehow,

they always let you slide.

You had that way about you.

I remember those dreams—
both of them.

You came to me like smoke,

but I felt you—

your warmth, your smile,

the weight of your arm across my

shoulder

like nothing had changed.

You didn’t say much—never did—

but your presence was loud.

Louder than this silence.

There is a hole where you should

be,

and justice is a word

I sharpen like a blade.

I will not rest—

I cannot rest—

until those who took you

answer for the blood on their

hands.

They do not know the storm

they’ve summoned in me.

I wrote this with tears,

yes—

but also with rage,

with love so fierce it cracks my

bones.

I couldn’t protect you.

And that truth will forever ache.

But I can honor you.

I can fight.

I will fight.

You are more than a memory.

You are breath and thunder

in my chest.

You are the reason I rise

when the weight is too much

Forever my brother.

Forever my blood.

Forever my baby boy.

I will always love you,

Zakchiria. by @trebor_evol
