This is a poem about pain and strength and love

It is about overcoming the things that hurt so bad that sometimes I think I want to die

It is about pleasure

I hurt so bad

I feel so good

I wish I didn’t feel this way

I am so happy to feel this way

How can I understand any of this

This city is making me ill

I feel all I can do sometimes is cry

But tears are a gift of freedom

Pain blesses my being with peace and grace

The light of my love shines brightly into the depths of my being

How can it all be true

Life is full of contradictions

Life is a contradiction

Mother Earth please hold me through this concrete

Let me know your peace

Remind me that you meet me where I am with every step

Remind me that I am safe to feel ALL OF THIS

I started writing this poem with the intention of reading it over some audio that I was producing but was feeling a bit stuck in production and short on time. So I shifted my efforts into sampling other artists and then the poem evolved alongside the evolution of the audio. I thought that painting the words would make the performance more engaging. It’s not often you get to run around painting the floor and walls of a building during a set.
