NEW FALL SERIES: COLOSSIANS Last Sunday Andrew kicked off our new series through the book of Colossians that we will be walking through this fall at Treeline! Swipe to read more about the sermon series graphic, and we encourage you to call it to mind as a visual handlebar throughout our time studying and diving deep into who Christ is as displayed through this epistle. — This series is designed to ask us to ponder the mystery of God as revealed in Jesus Christ (Col 2:2-3). He is the “image of the invisible God” (Col 1:15) and the one in whom “the fullness of God was pleased to dwell” (Col 1:19). The artwork for this series is inspired by a dispersive prism which refracts (bends) white light into its spectral colors and thus revealing to the naked eye what is always true, but typically rendered invisible. When we look at the man upon the cross, Jesus, this is what he does for us. The attributes of God and his heart for his creation are rendered most visible in Christ’s sacrifice for the sins of the world at Calvary. Today, science has allowed us to make sense of light: the prism can render visible to us the spectrum of light. We can measure wavelengths, understand color theory, and yet we are still moved to wonder and awe at the sight of a rainbow in the sky. There is both something understood and yet still mysterious, awe-inspiring, and captivating. So too with Christ, for now we see dimly, but soon we shall see face to face (1 Corinthians 13:12). As we ponder the person of Christ through the book of Colossians, may we be both captivated by that which has been revealed, and nonetheless entranced by that which remains mysterious. May we accept God’s invitation to step in closer and discover His character as revealed in Jesus, and be moved to awe and wonder. by @treelineannarbor
