🌲 We support the responsible planting 🌱 and management of trees in the UK 🌳
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
🍂 It takes approximately 450 mature trees to balance out the annual emissions of just one person!

A mature tree can absorb roughly 22kg of carbon dioxide per year, and a person's average annual carbon footprint in the UK is around 10 tonnes.

As you can see, it takes quite a forest to make a positive impact, which is why tree planting is an important component, along with reducing our carbon footprint.

Thank you to everyone who helps support The Tree Project and organisations that plant trees in the UK.

🌳 While trees help clean our air, we produce more pollution than they can absorb on their own.

Here are some things we can do to help reduce our emissions.

🚶🏽‍♀️ Walk or bike short distances. Set a rule for yourself: if the journey’s short, leave the car behind. It’s good for the air, your wallet, and your health.

🚗 Carpool when you can. Going to the same place? Share a ride! It’s more fun—and better for the planet.

🛍️ Combine your journeys. Try to group tasks like supermarket runs and school pickups into one journey. You’ll cut emissions and save time, too.

🐞 Ladybirds are wonderful allies in our gardens!

These colourful insects feast on common pests like aphids and mites - helping to keep your plants healthy without the need for chemicals.

They also play an important role in the food chain, providing nourishment for birds, frogs, and spiders.

If you want to attract ladybirds and boost biodiversity in your garden? Try planting herbs like Alyssum, Caraway, Dill, Fennel, Parsley, and Mint—they love these!

And remember: a pesticide-free garden is a ladybird-friendly garden.

🌼 Spring Sunshine in Bloom 🌼

Nothing says springtime in the UK quite like bright, cheerful daffodils bursting into bloom.

Did you know daffodils provide essential early nectar for bees emerging after winter?

Welcome spring by planting bulbs each autumn and help support pollinators when they need it most.

Merry Christmas from The Tree Project!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last 12 months.

Wrapping paper is one of the biggest contributors to waste and contaminated recycling over the festive period.

Whilst you may be sending gifts in recyclable wrapping paper how can you tell what you are unwrapping?

🎄🎄🎄 RIP IT

You can check if wrapping paper is recyclable by ripping it! If it tears easily, then it is likely to be glossy paper, instead of laminated.

🎄🎄🎄 SCRUNCH TEST

The scrunch test is also helpful. If it doesn’t spring back to shape, then it should be paper.

🎄🎄🎄 AVOID FOIL & TAPE

Even if it is paper - bows, tape, foil and glitter are not recyclable. If it is more tape than paper, it can’t be recycled. by @treeprojectuk

Keeping warm in winter can be a real challenge for many families who are already making hard choices to manage every aspect of their heating costs.

For those of us who are more fortunate, it is easy to forget how small changes can help us save energy, protect the planet and reward your wallet:

⚡️ Turn radiators off in rooms you aren’t using.
🧺 Wash clothes at a lower temperature
🔌 Turn appliances off at the plug
🚿 Take shorter showers
♨️ Bleed your radiators
🧰 Service your boiler
🚪 Use a draft excluder to stop warm air from escaping

Your energy provider may also offer incentives to reduce usage at certain times, which can help save money.

There are also grants available for vulnerable individuals and families. Contact your local authority for more information.

When was the last time you climbed a tree?

🌲 Climbing trees is a great way for children to learn their limits and boundaries.

🌳 As well as good fun and personally challenging, it helps them learn what their bodies can do as they reach new height.

🌲 It helps Children develop an appreciation for nature and gets them into the great outdoors. All your senses come alive, the feel of the bark, the sounds of the birds, the smell of the fresh leaves, and the fresh air as you climb higher and higher.

🌳 The sense of achievement a child gets from reaching a point they didn’t think they could is a feeling that is unbeatable.

🎆 Bonfire Night is a colourful, spectacular event that brings friends, families and communities together with plenty of “ooo’s” and “ahhh’s”.

Instead of having your own bonfire – get all your friends and family to attend a public display.

This will mean that fewer emissions and waste are being let off into our planet. Go for paper, wood and cardboard when choosing burning materials.

Always ensure that no waste is left on the ground. This is to prevent any animals from being injured as well not many fireworks or sparkles are biodegradable.

🌳 How many types of trees do you think there are?

🌲 The latest figures show there are more than 60,000 different species of trees across the world. We can’t quite manage to plant that many varieties here at The Tree Project! But we do our bit to plant the trees most suited to, and supportive of, the environments and soils we’re planting in here in the UK.

🌱 If you’d like to know which type of tree we planted on your behalf for your purchase or project, simply ask us and we’ll send a note with your certificate.

🍂You’re probably starting to notice the trees begin to change colour and their leaves begin to fall.

🍃In fact, fallen leaves themselves are naturally recycled. Once the leaf reaches the ground, animals and bacteria help to break it down. This results in organic material decaying at the base of the tree, which is then converted by nature into water and simple carbon dioxide.

🌿This clever way in which nature recycles is just another reason why planting trees is so important for the environment.

Today is World Cleanup Day!

🧹 World Cleanup Day is a global social action program held each year. The goal is to combat the global mismanaged waste crisis.

🧹 The aim is to empower individuals by getting involved and making a difference. The belief is that leadership isn’t restricted to the few, but rather something anyone can develop.

🧹 Supporting a new generation of leaders is important to promote a sustainable future. The emphasis is on finding ways to help and address the issue of ‘trash blindness’ in an innovative way.
