I’m honored to serve as a jury member for @trejdegsnis, celebrating the creativity of international youth! 🌟 This year, this Latvia-based nonprofit accepted over 300 entries from 8 countries that showcase how young minds interpret the "Tree of Life" and its importance in their communities 🌳

In the Dakota worldview, our sacred trees, way of life, and children are deeply connected—a reminder of the wisdom and inspiration our youngest generations bring. How are the children in your community inspiring you? Let’s celebrate their voices together, follow along and be inspired~ 🌍✨ #TreeOfLife #YouthCreativity

--
The Cottonwood is a sacred tree, it is filled with stars & connects us with ours ancestors. In Dakota culture, the children taught us how to make tipis (our traditional houses): Adults watched them playfully make villages out of the Cottonwood Tree leaves. Medicine Man Black Elk said the spirits shared this wisdom with the young ones; a lesson reminding us to love and listen to our youngest generations. This lesson remains cherished today, inspiring us to honor and encourage the youngest among us. by @trejdegsnis

We are honoured to announce Marlena Myles @mylesdesigns as our main jury member of XV International Art Contest Trejdegsnis - Triple Sun exhibition THE TREE OF LIFE 🌳🤍

Marlena Myles is a self-taught Spirit Lake Dakota (Native American) artist based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Her work seamlessly bridges modernity with Indigenous history, languages, and oral traditions, using the land as an enduring source of inspiration and education. Myles’ diverse portfolio includes children’s books, augmented reality projects, murals, fabrics, and animations. Among her notable achievements are three site-specific augmented reality installations: the Dakota Spirit Walk in Saint Paul, the Sacred Hoop Walk at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and the Wodakota Walk at Caponi Art Park. The Dakota Spirit Walk earned the prestigious North America title in the 2024 International Award for Public Art presented by the Institute of Public Art (Shanghai).

Myles’ fine art has been exhibited in esteemed venues such as the Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Museum of Russian Art, and the Minnesota Museum of American Art. Her creative reach extends to widely recognized platforms, including a Google Doodle and commissioned public art for Target and Starbucks. In addition, she founded Wíyouŋkihipi (We Are Capable) Productions, a Dakota publishing company dedicated to amplifying the culture, language, and history of Dakota people through innovative media. In 2023, Marlena received multiple accolades, including the Knight Arts + Tech Fellowship, the Joyce Award, and recognition as a Rise25 Mozilla Honoree. She also created her first documentary, Realms of Resilience, as part of her residency with ALL ARTS in 2024. by @trejdegsnis
