Have you ever noticed how toys and everyday objects from the past seemed to have more details than they do today?

Over the years, manufacturing has shifted toward lighter materials, simpler designs, and faster production. While modern technology has made many products safer and more affordable, older objects often had a level of craftsmanship that still makes us nostalgic.

But does more detail really mean better quality, or do we simply remember the past differently?

Some beaches in Okinawa, Japan, have sand shaped like tiny stars.

But these aren’t ordinary grains of sand. They’re actually the shells of microscopic, single-celled marine organisms called foraminifera.

Over time, their star-shaped skeletons accumulate along the shore, creating one of nature’s most fascinating phenomena.

In Japan, star sand is also considered a symbol of happiness and good luck.

Would you visit a beach covered in tiny stars?
