When Is It Finished?
Mixed media (pencils, collage, paints etc).
A4 sheets stuck together in a square (one image is on the back of another).

Made for Morley College, Chelsea. Currently exhibited in the main space.

Made from February – April 2026 as a project to keep me creative between major projects.

Just keep plugging away. If you do enough versions someone is sure to like one.

Don’t be so bloody neat!

Being conscious of my place in Art History.

EXPLANATIONS:

Interests:
1. Cultural Appropriation
2. Variations on a theme
3. Mediums changing the tone of meaning
4. Repetition, repetition, etc.
5. How context changes creativity eg: on a tube train / in a studio etc.
6. Dialogue with Art History
7. Comedy & intentional amateurism in art
8. Making with what is to hand in the time we have
9. Giving yourself random targets and rules
10. Not using computers

Rules:
1. 20 versions of the same (bloody) thing
2. One starter image which is suitably recognisable
3. Only draw from the chosen image for the first artwork – all the others should be taken from that initial one – like ‘Chinese Whispers’
4. Everything contained in one sketchbook
5. Nothing is forced or researched – do just what happens
6. Transmit the joy mean
7. The page being the diary of creativity
8. Use materials that are cheap of free
9. Thinking of the role of personal preference
10. Making the image a muscle memory

Influences:
Picasso
Plastic Cubism
Rose Wylie
Students
Art Brut
Kurt Schwitterz
Merz forever!
Dada
Henrik Werkmann
Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Bagatelles
Paul Olive (from my secondary school – king of the sellotape sculpture!)
Connections between objects – how the brain will desperately try and make sense of any image put before it

Inspiration:
I don’t really like the image that much – it was chosen as it has a lot of pictorial elements:

Jan van Eyck

I wasn’t able to make a funeral, so instead made this.
DK Gouache and Acrylic on watercolour paper.
Based on the Fayum portraiture style. My dad always liked them. The second one is a first attempt, which is good but doesn't look like him, which was the whole point. The colours are red gold and green ish. #fayum #portrait #goiache #painting #art taken in The Bardo by @trevoirio

First time in Brompton Cemetery. Near Chelsea. Rather nice. Good trees and some nice graves as you can see.
