A lot of people have asked me what inspired my play 𝘽𝙔 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙀𝙉𝘿 𝙊𝙁 𝙏𝙊𝙉𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏. To be honest, it came from wanting to make sense of something that will never make sense. I wrote this play as a way of trying.

A lot of people also asked me “what’s next,” after 𝙊𝙗𝙞𝙩. Well, here’s your answer.

Incredibly excited to bring the World Premiere of my very dark comedy 𝘽𝙔 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙀𝙉𝘿 𝙊𝙁 𝙏𝙊𝙉𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏 to London, and make my London debut in the process.

As seen in The New York Times!

“Their Shared Love of Theater Was Just the Opening Act. It took Ellenore Scott, a Broadway choreographer, three months to reply to Trey Everett, a writer and musician. It only took a week to fall in love.”

Story time.

Today I found out that @elizalumleyproductions is developing a Shania Twain musical.

I’ve been a lifelong @shaniatwain fan. I grew up in Texas, where country music was always in the air, and nobody had a bigger impact on me than Shania.

I still remember listening to my older sister rehearse “From This Moment On” for her tenth-grade talent show and thinking, “Man, this music belongs in a musical.”

As I started performing throughout high school and college, I thought, “Man, Shania herself would make a fantastic character.”

And when I decided to throw my life into theatre and playwriting, the thought became, “Man, I should just write a musical about Shania Twain.”

So I did.

In 2023, I completed the first draft of “Like a Woman,” a musical following Shania’s extraordinary journey, from her humble beginnings to sold-out residencies in Las Vegas. When my Tony-nominated choreographer wife, @helloellenore, found out I was writing it, she immediately wanted in. In fact, she tore her ACL while teaching a dance class and working on choreography for a number from this entirely hypothetical musical (true story).

Any of my closest friends will tell you: the lore of me writing a Shania Twain musical runs deep. Very deep.

So consider this the official launch of my campaign: If there’s going to be a Shania Twain musical, I need to write the book.

Slide 1: the title page of my spec musical “Like a Woman.”
Slide 2: My wife tearing her ACL choreographing the titular track of my Shania Twain musical.
Slide 3: a video I took seeing Shania live in Vegas in 2022.
Slide 4: a photo of me as a child in cowboy boots, so you know it’s real. by @treyeverett

Gratitude is the word that comes to mind.

Thank you: to the sold out audiences that laughed and cried and cared, to the friends and family that came, to the @eastvillagebasement for being quirky and so perfect for this play, to @carsonhiggins for jumping in feet first, to @kerstanderson1 for the grace, to @actorlorenlester for believing, to @jerushacavazos for changing it all, to @wheelermoon for giving my words light, to @amandajroberge for giving them color, to @andrewbfeldman_ for giving them meaning, and to @emryhle & @nicoleyag for making sure it all happened.

You only get one debut, and what a way to do it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. by @treyeverett

My best friend. My favorite person. My wife.

I am constantly in awe of who you are. Of what you do. Of what you create. Of how you make people feel. How lucky are we to know you. How lucky are we to be in your orbit. How lucky am I to get to love you.

Became a husband. Became a dad. Made art. Cherished friends. Married friends. Ate great meals, drank great beer. Wrote more than I’ve ever written before. Proved to myself that I could, then promised myself I would.

Oh boy. What is there even to say? For the last nine months, I watched my wife experience the most intense thing I’ve ever witnessed anyone experience. And she did it with courage, and grace, and the weighted anticipation of this moment.

And now he’s here. This perfect, beautiful, sweet baby boy. Our son. And he is already seeing what an amazing mama he has.

We are absolutely still in the trenches, but what an embarrassment of riches this life is. If I wasn’t a radical left lunatic before, I absolutely am now. “What radicalized you?” Watching my wife become a mother. I’ll never make peace with anyone witnessing women do this, and hold a newborn baby, and not want to do everything in their power to make sure that every mama and every baby has absolutely anything and everything they need.

I’m so excited for Ford to meet all of his aunts and uncles and guncles and auncles and xuncles and piblings. What a loved boy he already is. by @treyeverett
