Summer full of little memories. 🖤 taken in Benson by @treyruss

The last 5 days have been the most surreal and defining moments of my life. I want to express mine and my husband’s gratitude towards the midwife and labor and delivery team at CHI Immanuel along with the incredible NICU care team at Children’s Hospital. After 28 hours of induced labor and the failed success of trying to birth our baby girl out naturally, the decision was made to move forward with a C-section. Terrified of what was to come with the surgery and recovery, we prayed and stepped into the unknown with faith. Hearing her first cry made all of the fear melt away.

While in the bliss of our baby girl and anticipation of getting to experience the picture perfect going home moment as a little family, things took a change the night before we were set to go home. Nothing could’ve ever prepared us for seeing our one day old baby being taken off in an ambulance and having to make the decision of splitting up that night to be there for Isabella. Trey and I are extremely grateful for our moms who dropped everything that night to rush to both of us to be there. My mom spoon feeding me while I double pumped to keep up my supply and advocate for me being discharged promptly, and Tonja sitting in a waiting room for 5 hours waiting to be there for Trey as he was the only one who could be our daughter’s voice.

Finally after being reunited that late morning, hoping to be discharged after the team of surgeons decided that surgery was no longer needed on Isabella’s umbilical cord, we were told that she still needed to be kept overnight for observation. Through this last extra sleepless night I reflected on the journey all 3 of us as a family have been on. I have only fallen more in love with my husband and his strength and care for me and now our daughter. Now we are finally getting to enjoy that picture perfect going home moment but with a new found view on life and marriage that God had intended for us to experience all along. by @treyruss
