As is tradition, Festival-Mediaval 2026 went out with a bang - the last band to play on the Schlossbühne, closing this wonderful festival (and most certainly a legend!): Subway to Sally!

Definitely another legend at Festival-Mediaval 2026: Des Teufels Lockvögel, who have been around since... ...the dawn of time, or at least not too far off... But they are most definitely still going strong! 😃

With the Award Folk Ceremony out of the way, it was time for the folk to get a bit more funky - or should I say "punky"? Anyway, time for Mr. Irish Bastard!

Let's take a moment to look back at the Award Ceremony with the three participants competing for the Festival-Mediaval 2026 Folk Award:
- Kaspar und die Anderen

Festival-Mediaval 2026 was not only the festival of legends, but apparently also the festival of special occasions - like the 20 years celebration of Tibetréa, with support from former member Thomas Jetzfellner and Adriana Melo!

The theme of Festival-Mediaval 2026 was "Legends" - and here is the next one: Vera Lux!

Talking about award winners: Bosparans Fall won the Rock Award at Festival-Mediaval 2025 - which of course meant that they got to take to the big stage in 2026. And boy did they ever take that opportunity to go all the way!

...and here's the second contestant for the Festival-Mediaval 2026 Folk Award: Sagensang! (beware of the black flute, though! 😁)

Of the participants competing for the Festival-Mediaval 2026 Folk Award, I unfortunately could see only two - and here is number one: Kaspar und die Anderen!

They were already the session two evenings before and what I heard then made me curious - and rightly so! They were a lot of fun - and they seem to have something with... ...unicorns??

Flashback Friday: Castlefest 2026

When I first saw Itinera in 2025 at Middeleeuws Winschoten, I was sold immediately - their mix of electronic and traditional music connected with me in a very direct manner. Hence, this was another act I was rather exited about when they were announced for Castlefest this year! And, just as last year, I just loved their performance - I hope they have a long way to go yet!
(Pity though I didn't get to see their Saturday-performance, as all their CDs had already sold out then... 😲 ...so it looks like I'm not the only one who loved them!)

Strictly speaking, Songleikr's performance at Festival-Mediaval 2026 was on the Sunday rather than on the Saturday (they started off at midnight...), but who's counting... 😁

In any case, they provided a wonderful end to a great day with their ever mesmerising harmonies and their endless energy that they are radiating off the stage - one big heartwarming experience! ☺️
