"Jennifer Marstanovic, You Are an Ironman!" This never gets old, especially by the voice of Ironman himself @ironmanvoice

I've had a little bit of time to process this race. Initially, I was unhappy with my performance. I kept digging my head into negativity spirals during my struggles (and there were a lot).

In reality, I didnt have any business doing Berlin or Ironman Arizona this year. On top of health struggles, I got injured in March. For the past 8 MONTHS! I have been battling proximal hamstring tendinopathy. All my consults of this revealed that it is a LONG injury. I was able to keep training...then the back pain came. 2 MRI's later, I was also diagnosed with glute med tendinopathy, 2 bulging discs with nerve root contact in lumbar spine, ischial tuberosity bone stress and re-diagnosed with hip labral tear. I was a mess. Not to mention my ongoing GI problems and now mental. I sought out professional opinions of my coach, 2 sports med chiros, GI, PCP, Naturopath, Nutritionist, PT, sports psychologist, pro runners and felow teammates/Bruce Campers (iykyk).

Obviously, it was muddy waters but I was able to make a plan that focused on listening to my body as the number one north star. There were very special instructions for continuing training or shutting it down. I focused on nutrition but especially fueling my efforts properly. Sleep had also been impacted due to nerve pain and a dysregulated nervous system.

There were adjustments along the way (diet, supplements, hydration strategies, letting go of unnecessary responsibilities, bike fit, sleep hygiene, prioritizing recovery as much as possible). Slowly, I saw some improvement but I was not 100% and the races were approaching. So I had to choose - give up on my dreams - or fight like hell. I chose to fight. While I don't recommend training or racing injured, I do believe that there is capacity to go beyond what you ever thought was possible.

With the help of my coach, family, pros, and teammates, I made my way to both start lines and completed two of my hardest, yet most victorious races both ending in PR's. For that, I am forever grateful and proud.

Ok, now it's time to heal all the way. by @trihardjenni

A lot can happen in a year!
On Saturday, I ran my fifth race with Mesa Marathon. This is the race where my transition to long distance started (First half and first full).

Over the years, I've learned so much about racing, sports physiology, endurance, grit, dedication, hard work, managing time, succeeded, failing, nutrition, recovery, injuries, SHOES, but most importantly - about myself. I've learned that nothing ever comes easily but building all these skills helps navigate those ups and downs.

Over the years, I raced a lot and this past year I've had such amazing performance growth (thanks to @jlentzke and @toro.performance). But the truth is, it's also been a really hard year. As my performance increased over these years, I started to slowly have other problems. It all almost came to a screeching halt after getting "food poisoning" back in November, which sent my body's inflammation through the roof and revealed a lot of correlated and progressing medical problems.

The last 2 months have been a lot of answer-seeking and testing to figure things out. I've had good days, amazing days, medium days, meh days and days that left me utterly flat in bed. The good news is that I have some answers, and I'm working with a great team on a path forward. I have a lot of work to do and a long road ahead. This has been truly humbling, and I can't help but feel gratitude for this journey of discovery.

WHERE WILL I BE 12 MONTHS FROM NOW? I'm excited to see!!!!

Thanks to my husband @gmarstan for his support and letting me buy all the SHOES.

Thanks to my coach @jlentzke for pushing me but forcing me to pull back when I can't seem to stop (I ain't got no chill).

Thanks to all my peeps at @toro.performance
for all the training hours and friendships. It keeps those long hard days bearable!

Thanks to my amazing ND @ Moringa Health that put all the pieces together and helped me start the recovery process.

Thanks to my lovely PT Natasha @balanced.ptandpilates who keeps me strong, helps me through niggles/pains and lends a listening ear.

Thanks to my Chiro Brandon @ ProCare Spine and Sports Therapy to keep everything in balance.

I couldn't do any of it without you πŸ™Œ by @trihardjenni

I made it to Nice!!! After a nice short sleep (only 15 hours), I'm adapted and ready to go. How amazing is it that my race number is 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣?🫢 Only 3 more sleeps until the biggest race of my life πŸ€ͺ
