Understanding your client’s lifestyle is the key to crafting a hairstyle that they will love and maintain with ease.

Is your client always on the go? Then they might need a low-maintenance style that still looks fabulous with minimal effort.

Do they love experimenting with their look? Then frequent visits to the salon for touch-ups might be part of their routine.

How often do they wash their hair? This can influence the type of products you recommend and the styling techniques you use.

Do they have time for daily styling? If not, suggesting a cut that looks great with minimal styling might be the best route.

Cosmetology programs teach you the rules of color, style and hair. But what about the essential skills that lay the foundation for success beyond the salon chair.

Here are 3 things to consider whether you’re currently in school or already behind the chair!

1. Finances…ok we know 🫠 Finances can be stressful and definitely not the first thing on your mind but it’s essential for long term success.

Make sure you’re tracking expenses and saving for taxes. This will help manage cash flow and understanding whats coming IN and OUT of your business is crucial for a sustainable career ✨

2. Time management. In our profession it’s common to run ourselves thin. Taking more appointments than our bodies can handle.

Been there done that 😅 Write down your non-negotiables when it comes to doing hair. Such as answering 2am messages or squeezing in an appointment on your off day.

This will look different for everyone but the point is to create BOUNDARIES 🙌

3. And last, set your goals!!!

And not just once a year. Set clear, actionable goals for what you want in your career. AND CHECK UP ON THEM.

It’s not working and here’s exactly why!!!

With many salons offering online booking, it can be challenging to stand out and convert followers into clients.

But we’re here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be.

Here’s why “book with me” or showing your available times just isn’t cutting it (plus how to fix it 😉)

But first, make sure to follow us for the hair industry tea and education 👀

Ok, It really comes down to this:

💭 Choice overload. Too many available time slots can overwhelm clients, making it difficult for them to choose.
✍️Here’s how you can make the choice FOR THEM: write in what specific services you can do this week with no more than 5 time slot options. This way its to the point and concise!

💭No incentive…there may be no incentive for clients to book especially if they don’t feel a sense of urgency or value. With online booking they can book whenever THEY think they should.
✍️Instead run special promotions! Use your story posts to share deals you’re running. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy but this is a great way to create urgency and have people ACTUALLY sliding up on your stories and BOOKING. Plus you can see what specific promotions led to conversion ☺️

Lastly, this all should happen alongside the nurturing of your followers.

Build that trust with them by showing your work (social proof), inspire them to change their look or touch it up, and don’t be afraid to show your personality through the screen✨
