A Way with Words is a fascinating account of the journey to develop the profession of Speech and Language Therapy in Vietnam. It celebrates the involvement of myriad contributors, from international organisations and volunteers to the graduates themselves, the Vietnamese academics and interpreters as well as the beneficiaries and their families. Each provide perspectives about the processes to achieve better health outcomes for those experiencing communication and swallowing disorders in a Majority World country. It is the first chronological and inclusive narrative of its kind, illustrating not just the challenges and successes, but also highlighting themes related to friendship, community development and personal growth.

Trinh Foundation Australia is proud to have partnered on this journey alongside VNAH and UMP at HCMC and honoured to support this important work with our valued partners.

While we couldn’t be there in person for the ceremony in April, we were pleased to share a closing message from our Co-Chair, Megan Nevell, on the day — and are now sharing a short snippet here.

TFA director, Mrs Carla Mira, was honoured to attend the HNUE International Scientific Conference and 25th anniversary celebration.

Giám đốc TFA, Carla Mira, vinh dự tham dự Hội thảo Khoa học Quốc tế của Trường Đại học Sư phạm Hà Nội (HNUE) và lễ kỷ niệm 25 năm thành lập ngành Giáo dục Đặc biệt.

“I had the honour of attending the HNUE International Scientific Conference & 25th anniversary of Special Education celebration. I was blown away by the innovation, dedication, passion and commitment HNUE has demonstrated to special education. I was also able to present on an area of speech pathology I am very passionate about, interaction-based intervention for children with complex communication needs. Distinguished Professor Dr. Sharynne McLeod was a Keynote speaker and spoke on the importance of communication intervention within the scope of disability.
