There has always been a lot of things I wish I could change about my childhood and the past. Things I wish could have gone differently or choices that I made. Though some old memories make me anxious to this day, I don’t think any choices were truly wrong. Dropping out of college, living at home, breaking up with a bad ex, moving back home, taking care of my mom when she was sick. All choices that brought me more time with my mom. My mom was my bestfriend. We’d randomly give each other gifts, go into each others rooms to use each others things or show off new outfits, like siblings. Of course we’d fight like siblings too. But we had “our” routine. The day my mom passed I had snuck into her room to use her lotion while she was sleeping, sound asleep and snoring looking so peaceful. The day before my mom passed I gave her a pair of earrings I got her, she said she’d be “wearing them for the next three months” which is so like her. I didn’t know that snoring wasn’t snoring and I didn’t know just a month later I’d be wearing those same earrings to her memorial.. My siblings have always been confused by how my mom and I got along so well, even with the childhood we experienced. Stripped of a father at a young age I guess I subconsciously or consciously put all of that love into my mom, another choice I made. But even so I’m glad I never got the chance to change the past. The only thing I wish is that I could tell my parents how little time they’d have with their children. But then maybe I wouldn’t have gotten the time I did. No matter how hard I tried or wanted to, I couldn’t save my mom nor her heart from the stress of life. But I’m grateful for the choices I made that brought me to be with her. There are a lot of things I didn’t and don’t know, but I do know that love is never a waste. Don’t be embarrassed to love your family, be with them, hold them and tell them you love them. My mom was only 59 and god did I love her. I hope she knows how many people miss her and love her. I hope she knows that her and her children are loved and are surrounded by the most amazing people. I hope she’s felt our love, if not here then wherever she is now. by @trinity.tison
