Heading to @theukdrumshow this October? Come and speak to us about Trinity Rock & Pop! 🥁

We’re teaming up with @rolandglobal at this year’s UK Drum Show on 24–25 October, where you’ll be able to see some fantastic young drummers performing on the Main Stage Mini.

Among the performers will be @sambickmoredrums, a Trinity candidate who has achieved both Grade 8 Rock & Pop Drums and an ATCL Music Performance Diploma, and is a brilliant example of where a passion for performing can lead!

Our Head of Business Development for the UK & Ireland, Toby, will also be co-compering the Main Stage Mini across the weekend.

Come and say hello at the Roland stand and chat to Toby about Trinity Rock & Pop Grades and our new Rock & Pop Diplomas. Whether you’re a drummer, teacher or simply interested in where your musical journey could take you next, we'd love to see you!

Find out more about the UK Drum Show via the link in our bio.

How is sight reading assessed?

Being able to read and interpret written music at a glance is an invaluable skill for any musician. That’s why Sight Reading is one of the Supporting Tests available in Trinity College London’s face-to-face music grade exams.

In our recent blog, we explore the format of the Sight Reading test, how candidates are assessed, and how teachers can help their students prepare with confidence.

The aim of the Sight Reading test is to assess a candidate’s ability to perform a previously unseen musical extract. The extract is set at approximately two grades below the level of the exam being taken and is designed to be musically intuitive and natural.

This reflects the way sight reading is used in real-world musical settings, where musicians may need to perform unfamiliar music with little or no preparation, such as when playing in bands, choirs or orchestras.

Explore the Sight Reading test in detail, including format and preparation, via the link in our bio.

"Being a Champion Centre gives you another opportunity to showcase your students' talents and support them as they progress."

From celebrating student achievements to creating unforgettable performances, becoming a Trinity Champion Centre can make a real difference to what you’re able to offer your students.

For Brenda Whitehead, Principal of Big Red Curtain Performing Arts, successfully applying for funding linked to their Champion Centre role has helped create opportunities that extend well beyond the exam room – including a very special charity cabaret that brought current and former students together, while raising vital funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
