welcome to the inaugural gathering of triple a salon!

triple a salon is a monthly, seminar-style series bridging pop culture, feminist theory, and political critique, where you can meet interesting people and have even more interesting discussions.

event 01: body police
influencers, aesthetics, and surveillance in the glp-1 era

recent discourse surrounding the wicked cast and ariana grande, a sharp rise in eating disorder culture, and the rapid mainstreaming of glp-1s have sparked an urgent cultural debate:

is calling out sudden physical shifts in celebrities a necessary line of defense against toxic beauty standards, or have we just normalized modern body policing under the guise of concern?

as medications like ozempic blur the lines between medical advancement, social pressure, and personal choice, we’re left with a modern paradox: where does genuine health protection end, and public surveillance begin?

how it works

the media diet: 2 weeks prior to the event, we’ll send out a curated mini media diet (a quick mix of essays, video breakdowns, and articles) to set the foundation.

the night of: we’ll gather, break into small groups of 5–6 with prompt cards to debate it out, and then regroup for a full-room debrief over drinks and food.
come with an open mind, a good appetite, and many opinions.

pop culture, sociocultural commentary, and politics are intrinsically linked—yet so much of media, fashion, and art gets written off as “feminized” and devalued.

whether we’re dissecting tech-fueled sexism in laura bates or safiya noble’s algorithms of oppression, examining the substance as a modern dorian gray, or analyzing how love island treats women of color—these topics deserve real, respected critique.
