Japan can run bullet trains to the minute… and then give you a hotel website where the reservation form doesn’t exist 😭

Some of Japan’s most special traditional hotels and ryokan are also the hardest for international travellers to book. Confusing websites, overwhelming pages and booking systems that simply don’t cooperate.

Planning a trip to Kyoto, Japan? ⛩️

Kinkaku-ji and the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove appear on almost every Kyoto itinerary but are they really must-dos? 🧐

Kyoto itself is absolutely not overrated.
However, concentrating on the same famous attractions can mean larger crowds and missing the quieter temples, gardens and bamboo groves found elsewhere in the city✨

We went to a real sumo stable in Shin-Kawasaki expecting to just watch... we did not expect to end up in the ring ourselves. 🤼

Turns out sumo has actual rules: you legally cannot pull hair, slap faces, or grab throats!

After a full warm-up and one very unexpected match, we were rewarded with the most incredible chanko nabe.
