Some incredible news: The Inheritance is being adapted for television! I’m beyond excited to be working with Kunal Nayyar and Good Karma Productions, with the brilliant Geeta Patel directing.

From our very first conversation, it was clear @kunalkarmanayyar saw straight into the heart of this story — the characters, their secrets, the impossible choices they face. Honestly, I was picturing him as Aseem before we’d even hung up. And now with @geetavpatel on board as well…total pinch me moment! ✨

Excited, grateful, and so ready to see this world come alive in a whole new way. Huge thanks to my incredible agents @jrichman @arielestewart @jonnygeller @viola.hayden who somehow keep making the impossible happen ❤️ by @trishasakhlecha

WHAT A WEEK celebrating the UK publication of The Inheritance, made even sweeter by wonderful reviews in some of my favourite publications, translation deals, the news that The Inheritance hit the Sunday Times Top 20 after just 3 days of sales and some very exciting developments that I’m not allowed to talk about yet!

Huge thanks to all the amazing bloggers, reviewers and booksellers who have been so supportive and to the organisers of Granite Noir for having me. There’s nothing quite like being able to talk to real people about characters that have lived in your head for months (or years!) and the fact that I got to visit Scotland, which is where I first dreamed up the murderous Agarwal family made this particular book tour extra special.

What a privilege to be able to call this work ❤️✍🏽 by @trishasakhlecha

So grateful to @mysterywritersofamerica for bringing us all together — and huge congratulations to all the nominees and winners. ❤️ taken in New York, New York by @trishasakhlecha

Had the great privilege of calling on the Honourable Prime Minister of India, @narendramodi ji, to present him with a copy of The Inheritance ahead of the Edgar Awards in New York later this month.

A special moment made even more meaningful by sharing it with my family. We spoke about the journey of the book, the growing global market for translated fiction, and my time as Director of the Tagore Centre — a role that has shaped how I think about culture, storytelling and India’s voice in the world. taken in Delhi, India by @trishasakhlecha

Three years. Hundreds of events. Thousands of conversations about India, culture, film, literature and ideas.

And a surprising amount of time spent on stage holding a mic.

After an extraordinary three years, I’ve wrapped up my time as Director of the Tagore Centre at the Embassy of India in Berlin. Serving here as a diplomat and leading India’s premier cultural centre in Europe has been a real privilege and honour.

From film festivals to live interviews, the job was simple in theory: help expand India’s soft power by creating a platform for Indian culture and ideas in Germany. In practice, it meant hosting artists and dignitaries I’ve long admired, curating events and experiences that reached over a hundred thousand people, working on collaborative projects that crossed cultures and disciplines, and doing the core work of cultural diplomacy: creating institutional partnerships, signing MoUs and building long-term bridges.

But beyond the milestones, what I’ll remember most are the faces in the audience, the conversations after events, and the sense that cultural exchange — when it’s done right — really can connect people across borders.

Grateful to everyone who made this chapter possible.

On to the next. taken in India in Germany (Embassy of India, Berlin) by @trishasakhlecha

'Indology is the academic study of Indian civilisation — its classical languages, philosophy, literature, history and knowledge systems – but the impact of this study goes far beyond academics.
.
.
The challenges facing Indology are often attributed to funding pressures. That explanation is intuitive — and incomplete. The Indian and European governments continue to fund these departments. And relevance is definitely not the problem. Indology is intellectually serious and geopolitically significant.

The true challenge lies elsewhere and is harder to admit: magnetism. Indology has lost its coolness.

Students today are drawn to disciplines that feel alive, participatory and emotionally accessible.

In many universities where Indology departments are being closed, Korean studies programmes just a floor or two away are expanding — drawing students, institutional attention, and fresh investment.'

Now in paperback! 📚 THE INHERITANCE by @trishasakhlecha is a propulsive, page-turning mystery that "unwraps surprises through to its final line." (@flynnberryauthor) ⁣
⁣
ABOUT THE BOOK 📖: Everyone in the Agarwal family has secrets they would die to protect. So when they gather for a much-anticipated family reunion on a private, luxury island off the west coast of Scotland, only one thing is certain: this family gathering will shatter more than just their illusions of unity. What's less certain: Who will survive this high-stakes reunion, and who will become a victim of their own greed?⁣ by @trishasakhlecha
