Arriving in the Bay Area to celebrate my son’s birthday, we wanted to try some Filipino food at @tropa_eats to celebrate and we were greeted with accommodating staff who were very informative with the dishes they have. Definitely a spot that gives a cozy welcoming vibe. 1. Sizzling Sisig - chopped crispy pork jowl (cheeks) and belly. Served on a sizzling platter with their “secret sauce”, red onion, scallions, crispy garlic, labuyo chili 🌶️, and a cracked raw egg on top to mix in while the plate is sizzling. 2. Kilawin - Fresh fish marinated in citrus and coconut milk, labuyo chili, pickled red onions, cilantro, and some golden berries to add sweetness to the tangy dish. It is served with plantain and taro chips 3. Adobo Sticky Ribs - crispy pork ribs, adobo glaze, scallion bay leaf and crispy garlic. The adobo sauce has been reduced to be nice thick and saucy. 4. Arroz Valenciana - Sticky glutinous rice 🍚 cooked in achiote, turmeric, clams, prawns, octopus, Chinese sausage tomatoes, onion. 5. Tortang talong - eggplant that’s first grilled to remove the skin, then flattened, to be dipped in a batter and pan fried topped with a sweet and tangy mango and tomato salad. 📍Tropa Modern Filipino 3400 Mount Diablo Blvd, Lafayette, CA 94549 #filipino #filipinofood #fahm #bayarea #sisig by @tropa_eats

Join us on Friday, October 16 at Tropa Modern Filipino as we celebrate Filipino History Month with a special edition of Karaoke Dinner. Food is central to celebrating Filipino American History Month (FAHM) every October. While the month officially honors history, labor contributions, civil rights, and community heritage, cuisine is viewed as a living record of that. Food plays a major role in FAHM celebrations through several historical connections: Preserving Migration Stories: Dishes like adobo, pancit, and lumpia reflect trade networks, indigenous techniques, and historical influences.  Honoring Labor History: Early Filipino immigrants—such as the Manongs who worked in agricultural fields, fisheries, and canneries throughout the 20th century—built tight-knit communities centered around shared meals and communal cooking. For the Filipino diaspora, food is the ultimate bridge between generations. Cooking family recipes—passing down the precise tang of a sinigang broth or the crispness of a lumpia wrapper—preserves oral history, keeps elders’ memories alive, and connects future generations to their ancestral roots. In Filipino culture, food is far more than sustenance—it is connection, history, hospitality, and identity. The phrase “Kain tayo!” (“Let’s eat!”) is often the very first greeting you hear upon entering a Filipino home. In a Filipino household, asking “Kumain ka na?”(“Have you eaten yet?”) is synonymous with asking “How are you?” or saying “I love you.” Offering food is the primary way Filipinos show care, warmth, and respect to loved ones and strangers alike. Dine with us, drink with us and in true Filipino fashion, sing with us as we celebrate our rich culture through our love languages, food and music. Maraming Salamat ❤️🇵🇭 ✨ Friday, October 16, 2026 Tropa Modern Filipino 3400 Mount Diablo Blvd. Lafayette, CA 5 PM - 9 PM • Reservations Required via OpenTable ✨ Karaoke hosted by Fran Boogie www.tropaeats.com by @tropa_eats

📍 Tropa 3406 Mt Diablo Blvd, Lafayette, CA USA 94549 The grilled octopus was the STAR of this meal. 🐙🔥 I was especially looking forward to the kilawin because growing up in the Philippines, kinilaw is something I’m very familiar with and one of the flavors I really love. 🇵🇭 But honestly, this version wasn’t quite the taste I personally look for in my kinilaw — everyone’s palate is different! Still, I’m glad I tried it. 🤍 The grilled octopus, though? 🤌🏼🔥 That was definitely my favorite! 🍴 What we had: Grilled Octopus Kilawin Adobo Sticky Ribs Steamed Rice And don’t forget to ask for their complimentary sauce! 👀 It’s definitely worth trying with the dishes.
