Time for a really late Hadestown appreciation post! Man, I really should've taken more pictures...

Playing Hades in this show was a big step for me, not only because it was my first antagonist role, but also my first musical role. (Also worth noting that I've never had any formal vocal training either...) So when approaching this character, I tried to look at it first and foremost through the lens of an actor, figuring out what I can hook onto and play off of. Our wonderful co-director Michelle told me early on that the challenge of this role would be finding the humanity in Hades, and that really gave me the lens I needed to sink my teeth into this character, and I'm very happy with how it played out. I hope that, in forty years or so, I might get a chance to revisit this character.

Words cannot express how grateful I am for getting to be a part of Hadestown at Sullivan Theatre these past few months. I want to extend my utmost gratitude firstly to our incredible production team, who came in with a vision and absolutely delivered. I especially want to highlight the wonderful @justaboynamederic who helped me not only with finding this character and how I wanted to portray it, but also guiding me through the core foundation of what it means to be an actor.

And, of course, I want to harp on this cast for a moment. Y'all are, without a doubt, the kindest and most talented group of people I have ever gotten the honor and the privilege to work with. Every day when I felt like I wasn't enough or that I wasn't deserving of being a part of this cast, y'all were there with open arms and ears, and I cannot thank y'all enough for that.

Hadestown, at its core, is about hope for the future, hope that things will get better. Every day, y'all showed me what that future can look like. And I have no doubt in my mind that y'all will make that future a reality.

I'm not proofreading any of this sap, so I hope it reads well.

There are hardly any words to express what I feel right now, but I'll try nonetheless. High School is, for all intents and purposes, over.

I realized, as people signed my yearbook, that there are so many people that really do care about me. And a lot of the time, it's really easy to lose sight of that. So, to everyone that I know: thank you so much for making these last few years what they are. I love you all more than I'm able to express, and I just know that every single one of you is going to go on and do amazing things. Remember that I will always be here to support, to lend a hand, anything. I mean that with every ounce of my soul.

I wanna mention some people here.

To the entire theatre group, Kirby, Sofia, Blakeley, Maecyn, Ameelia, JT, Makenzye, Alani, Sadie, Kylie, and everyone that I've forgotten about (I'm sorry!), you all made every rehearsal feel worth it. You all work so hard, and I'm so proud of all of you, and I can't wait to see what you all do next year. Remember that I'm always close by!

To the people I haven't kept up with as well as I should have, Key, Jay, Liz, Luke, Charlotte, you guys were seriously the best part of my B days that first semester. When I couldn't get out of bed, y'all made it worth it to try, and I'm genuinely grateful for that. You all are awesome, and are gonna do some seriously amazing stuff.

To all of my teachers, Ms. Cao, Ms. O'Dell, Mr. Ponjuan, Ms. Freneaux, Ms. Lee, other Ms. Lee, Mr. Hargrave, Mr. Dobbyn, you guys are seriously incredible. Seriously, I don't know how you guys do it, because I sure as hell couldn't. Y'all inspired me every day to pursue something I'm passionate about, and I know y'all are gonna keep doing that. Seriously, you guys are the best.

I'm sure there's a million other people I could mention, but I've already written a bloody thesis here, so that's enough out of me. Once again, I love you all! Be amazing, because I know you're all amazing! by @trotg2367

1984 is over and done, and with it, my High School theatre career comes to a close! Thank you so much to these incredible, talented people who helped to tell this story, be it cast or crew! I also want to thank Mr. Ponjuan and Ms. Freneaux for supporting us through this project.

You all made this last year an amazing, rewarding experience, and I am eternally grateful to each and every one of you for being my friend. I know that my fellow seniors are going to go on to do amazing things, and I know that the juniors are going to be giving y'all some incredible performances next year. And that's a wrap on the WorldStrides Rice Aerospace Academy! I got the honor to learn so much and, more importantly, make some incredible friends! (I'm looking at you, Mars, Ruger, and Andrew.)
