This past Sunday I caught Stephen Chandler preaching at Elevation, and one line has stayed with me: "When you serve someone else's dream, God will bless yours."

He walked through Joseph's story. While Joseph was sitting in prison, he helped the cupbearer and the baker. Then they forgot all about him, and he sat there two more years. But God hadn't forgotten. That season wasn't punishment. It was preparation.

Jesus said it this way: "And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own?" (Luke 16:12, NIV)

For most of my career I've helped build other people's teams and other people's visions. Some days that felt like waiting. Looking back, it was training.

If you're in a season of serving someone else's dream right now, don't quit. How you steward what isn't yours is getting you ready for what is.

Early voting starts today in Wilson County and runs through Oct. 29, with four locations across the county.

Mt. Juliet voters will also see the Home Rule question we covered last week. However you vote, the people and questions on this ballot help decide how our roads, schools, and services keep pace as Wilson County grows. That matters whether you've owned here for years or you're hoping to buy your first home here.

Fall might be one of the best-kept secrets for buyers in Wilson County.

Once school is back in and the holidays get close, a lot of buyers hit pause. That can open the door for you:
- Weekend tours are calmer, so you can take your time in each home.
- There's often more room to ask for inspection time, repairs, or help with closing costs.
- The sellers still on the market this time of year are usually serious about moving.

Do your homework first: talk with a couple of local lenders, know your comfortable monthly number, and you'll be ready when the right home shows up.

Pastor Steven Furtick said something that stuck with me: "Tomorrow's opportunity swings on the hinges of today's obedience."

A door doesn't move on its own. It swings on hinges small enough that nobody notices them. Leadership works the same way.

That's why I built H.I.N.G.E.:

H = Habits
I = Identity
N = Narrative
G = Growth
E = Execution

This week I'm focused on the first two. Your habits are what your team actually sees. Your identity is who you decide you are before the day starts. When those two line up, people stop guessing what kind of leader is going to walk in the door.

Small, quiet, daily. That's where the big doors open.

Paul doesn't say ignore your own interests. He says don't look only at them. That's the heart of being last: you still show up, you just show up for someone else first.

Rates are at 7.40% this week (Freddie Mac, Oct 8). Here's the part the headlines skip: buyers in Wilson County have more leverage right now than they've had in a while.

Homes are sitting a little longer, and that opens the door to negotiate on:
- Price
- Seller-paid closing costs
- A rate buydown to bring your payment down

And if you're a homeowner thinking about selling, this works both ways: the equity you've built can go a long way on your next home right here in Wilson County.

For context, on a $436,000 loan (20% down on Wilson County's $544,900 September median), 7.40% works out to about $3,019 a month in principal and interest. The right home on the right terms can still make a lot of sense. It starts with knowing your number.

On the first Easter morning, Mary showed up at the tomb and saw the stone rolled away. And she still thought the story was over. (John 20:1-18)

That's the first letter of S.T.O.N.E.:

S = Stop Staring at the Stone
T = Temptations Equal Tremendous Pressure
O = Overwhelm
N = New Perspective
E = Everyone Has Access to This Shift

Sometimes the thing we're staring at has already been moved, and we just haven't looked up yet. For me lately, that stone has been a season of change I didn't plan for, and wondering what's on the other side of it.

The shift is available to all of us. Not just the people who have it all together.

Mt. Juliet voters will see a Home Rule question on the Nov. 3 ballot. Here's the plain-English version.

When Mt. Juliet adopted Home Rule in 2006, the city had about 19,000 people. Today it's about 45,000.
City leaders say repealing it would let Mt. Juliet ask the state for the ability to charge impact fees on new development, so growth helps pay for roads, water, and parks.
The ballot question itself does not create a new tax or an impact fee. Any fee would still need state approval and an impact study.

I'm not here to tell you how to vote. I just want my neighbors to know what's on the ballot and why it matters for growth and home values.
