Hello everybody– meet Bebhinn Francis, one of our excellent panelists for our upcoming PEOPLE'S ROUNDTABLE! Bebhinn is a Tenant Organizer with United Tenants of Albany and an organizer with the National Union of the Homeless. Based in Albany, she supports both housed and unhoused tenants in building collective power to demand safe, dignified living conditions through grassroots action and tenant-led bargaining. Bebhinn’s work is deeply informed by her own lived experience with homelessness, poverty, and unsafe housing. This background gives her a powerful ability to connect with the communities she organizes and fuels her commitment to justice and systemic change.

Before joining UTA, Bebhinn volunteered with several community organizations and later became a Statewide Canvasser with Citizen Action of New York. There, she honed her skills in deep canvassing and political education, while also becoming active in labor organizing. She served as a bargaining representative and eventually as a union steward for her fellow canvassers. Bebhinn believes deeply in organizing across lines of class, race, religion, and all forms of division, and works daily to build solidarity among those most impacted by housing injustice.

If you’d like to hear Bebhinn’s take on what’s going on, come join us from 2-4pm on Sunday, July 26th at @youthfx, 25 Warren Street Albany NY 12202. FOR MORE INFO + THE REGISTRATION, CLICK THE LINK IN OUR BIO!

You are invited to The PEOPLE’S Roundtable, a live, in-person conversation that WAMC’s The Roundtable could be having if they included voices that represented the racial and ideological diversity of their listeners. Registration link in bio.

Over the past year, the Truth & Justice For Palestine Coalition (TJ4P) began looking at the way WAMC’s The Roundtable covered current events, and why. We found that the show featured US and Israeli military affiliated experts 103 times, that 77% of the panels exclusively featured white guests, and that there were tiny percentages of Black, brown, queer, Muslim, Palestinian and disabled panelists.

Our roundtable, The People’s Roundtable, offers a vision for what these conversations could look like instead. Moderated by former Albany Common Council Member and former WAMC Roundtable panelist Barbara Smith, our guests Bebhinn Francis (UTA tenant organizer), Eduardo Rodriguez (journalist), and Lacey Wilson (public historian) shall engage in a wide-ranging analytical discussion on the pressing topics of the day, offering critical perspectives that are hard to find in the mainstream media.

SO, please join us from 2-4pm on Sunday July 26th, either in-person at YouthFX (25 Warren St. Albany 12202) or by streaming online! Just minutes from the freeway, our event is easily accessible by car (plenty of parking!) or by bus (near stops for CDTA routes 922/923 and 100) in Albany’s historic South End. We look forward to seeing you there!

**Accessibility Note: This is a mask-required event! High-filtration masks will be provided for respiratory safety. YouthFX is a wheelchair-accessible facility. If you have any accessibility questions requests, please reach out to us!** taken in Youth FX by @troydsa

Three years without a signed contract is too long! The City of Troy is denying CSEA workers a signed contract! At the City Council meeting last week, unionized city employees spoke about the city’s refusal to sign their contract, despite the City Council ratifying it in January. City workers need their contract printed! The Mantello administration has consistently prioritized golf courses and developers over workers and renters-- over Trojans.
