@spectrumnews1albany visited the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market last Saturday to talk with farmers and shoppers about local produce and recent public health guidance on washing fruits and vegetables.Reporter Madyson Diaz spoke with Ian Nichols of @meltwater.farm , Corrine Hansch of @lovinmamafarm , and several customers. Shoppers said they feel more confident buying directly from local growers, where they can ask about growing practices and the food travels a short distance.Ian Nichols noted strong turnout and said the recent outbreak has led more people to seek out local options. Corrine Hansch pointed out that supporting organic and regenerative farms also brings environmental benefits, habitat for pollinators, and living-wage jobs, along with produce that is freshly picked and longer-lasting.Public health authorities still advise washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly.
