True Care Tips: 3 Common Walking Frame Mistakes 🚫

A walking frame is meant to make getting around easier and safer, but a few small habits can quietly increase the risk of a fall. Here’s what to watch for:

❌ Pushing and stopping the walking frame
✅ Roll it smoothly. A stop-and-go pattern breaks your walking rhythm and can throw off your balance. A steady glide keeps you moving naturally.

❌ Wrong handle height
✅ Set the handles at wrist level. Handles that are too low cause hunching, and handles that are too high strain your shoulders.

❌ Parking the walking frame too far from your chair
✅ Back up to the chair before sitting. Many falls happen during the moments between walking and sitting, so keep your support with you until you’re ready to sit down.

The little moments, like standing up, sitting down, and moving from room to room, are often where help matters most. At True Care, our compassionate caregivers provide hands-on support with mobility and daily routines so your loved one can stay safe, confident, and independent at home.

True Care Tips: Is Your Cane Actually Helping You? 🤔

A cane can be a great tool for staying steady on your feet, but only if you’re using it the right way. Here are 3 common mistakes to watch out for:

👉 Mistake 1: The wrong height. Set the handle so it lines up with your wrist for better stability and comfort.
👉 Mistake 2: The wrong hand. Hold the cane opposite your injured or weak leg so your weight shifts away from it naturally.
👉 Mistake 3: The wrong steps. Move the cane and your injured or weak leg forward together to stay balanced and prevent falls.

Good habits today help prevent falls tomorrow. At True Care, our compassionate caregivers provide hands-on mobility support so your loved one can stay safe and independent at home. 💙 Learn more about our in-home care services here: https://bit.ly/True-Care-Tips

True Care Tips: The #1 Rollator Mistake 🚫

Your rollator has a seat, but that doesn’t make it a wheelchair! 🙅‍♀️

The most common mistake we see is people sitting on their rollator and rolling themselves around, either forward like a wheelchair or backward like an office chair. Rollator wheels can move without warning, which makes it easy to tip over, fall, and get hurt.

Rollators are designed for people who can still walk independently but need balance support and a place to rest. When you need a break, lock both brakes first, then sit and rest in place.

Using mobility aids the right way is one of the simplest ways to prevent falls at home. At True Care, our compassionate caregivers provide hands-on mobility support and help keep your loved one safe and independent every day 💙

True Care Tips: Rollator Walker 101 🦽

Rollators are one of the most popular mobility aids for older adults, and for good reason! They’re easy to maneuver, fold up for travel, and have a built-in seat so you can take a break whenever you need one. Here’s how to use one the right way:

👉 Set the handles at wrist height
👉 Stay upright and keep yourself inside the frame
👉 Don’t push it too far ahead or pull it too close. Keep it just slightly in front of you as you step
👉 Squeeze the brakes up to stop, and push them down until you hear a click to lock them

Staying independent at home starts with feeling steady on your feet. At True Care, our compassionate caregivers provide hands-on support with mobility, daily activities, and safety around the home, so your loved one can keep living life on their own terms. 💙

❗Medicaid Changes Part 2: Who’s exempt from the new work requirements? 📌

Starting January 2027, some adults on Medicaid will need to show 80 hours a month of work, school, job training, or volunteering to keep their coverage. Knowing whether you’re exempt matters, because you may need to show proof when you renew. 📝

Here are just a few of the most common exemptions:
✅ 65 or older
✅ Living with a disability or a health condition that makes working difficult
✅ Caring for a disabled family member or a child under 14
✅ Pregnant or were pregnant in the last year
✅ Enrolled in Medicare Part A or B

There are more exemptions than we could fit here, so check out the full list on our blog, link in bio. 👀
Most True Care clients fall into at least one of these groups. Even so, it’s smart to stay prepared. New York State has already started sending notices, so 📬 open any mail from NY State of Health, even if it looks routine.

Not sure if you qualify? Our care coordinators can help you find out. 💙

Medicaid is changing in New York, and here’s what you need to know. 📢

New federal rules are rolling out between now and January 2027, and some of them could affect your coverage. Here are a few of the big ones:

💼 Work requirements: Starting January 2027, some adults under 65 will need to earn $580 a month or complete 80 hours of work, school, or volunteering to keep their Medicaid.
🔄 Renewals: Some people will need to renew twice a year instead of once.
⏪ Past bills: If you apply late, Medicaid will cover fewer of your past medical bills.

The good news is that most seniors and people getting home care for a disability are exempt from the work requirements. Even so, renewal deadlines and paperwork can still sneak up on you. 📬 Open every letter from NY State of Health, renew on time, and if you or someone you love needs home care, don’t wait to apply.

There are more changes we didn’t cover here, including key dates and exactly how much backdated coverage you’ll get. Read the full breakdown on our blog, link in bio, so you’re not caught off guard.

We had such a great time at Music at the Market! 🎵🎶
We teamed up with Pod Health to connect with our community and show up where people already are.

We spent the day talking with neighbors about home care services, answering questions about what care looks like for a loved one, and helping people understand if they qualify for coverage. We also shared info on our Caregiver Training Program, with FREE 1-week NYS-approved certification and job placement for anyone looking to start a career in caregiving.

POD Health was right there with us offering free blood screenings, giving folks an easy, on-the-spot way to check in on their health.

Have questions about home care or want to see if you or a loved one qualifies? Call us at 718-557-9349 or visit the link in our bio.

Meet Lotte. 99 years young, sharp as ever, and still got jokes.

For 9 years, Lotte has been part of the True Care family. Her aid Tee helps with the everyday moments that matter: a familiar voice in the morning, a steady hand to hold onto, and all the little things that help Lotte stay independent.

Independence doesn't mean doing it all alone. Sometimes it means having someone in your corner. ❤️

Some visitors don't need words to bring comfort. 🐾💛

We hosted a therapy dog visit with our furry friend, Winnie🐶
These sessions bring so much joy, from belly laughs to quiet moments of connection, and create a comforting, therapeutic experience for our clients.

A huge thank you to Sunny, our Certified Dementia Practitioner, for making these visits happen and for the care she brings to every one of our clients. 🐕✨

Another beautiful day out in the community 💙

True Care and POD Health joined a local senior center in Coney Island to celebrate their grand re-opening, and what a day it was. Together, we shared info on home care and health services many seniors qualify for but don't even know about, plus free blood pressure screenings from the POD Health team.

The day was full of music, laughter, and connection, including a violin performance that one of the seniors actually stopped to sketch mid-song 🎻✏️ (swipe to see the drawing, it's incredible).
We're so grateful to be part of moments like this. Reminding our community that support is closer than they think. by @truecareny
