Student work

Here, one of my student is working on the walnut banding on the perimeter of the box. The top consists of curly walnut veneer, black and white banding lines and finally the walnut banding.

Box lining.
Here I'm adding suede to line the box. For a seamless neat look, I use thick card paper as a backing. A specialty transfer tape adheres the suede to the paper and in turn to the box. My earlier posts show the process in detail. by @truegemz18

What tape do you use?
Chris schwarz @lostartpress recommended this tape. I've just started to use it. It's strong, has some elasticity and most importantly does not lift veneer fibers. I'm liking it so far. I'm a bit of a tape fanatic, if there's one you like to use please comment!
It's called nichiban tape and is readily available on Amazon.

The box you see is the third box in a series that my students will be making, they are still on their first box. I always like to make the box I'll be teaching ahead of class schedule to familiarize myself with each process, I haven't been making boxes for that long!

A small box I made with my students.
I've been busy setting up my new masterclass woodworking program at my school. I have 5 students that are at the shop every day for an hour and a half. After completing their introductory course in hand tools we've settled down to make this box. This is the first time I've ever used barrel hinges and they take a few tweakings to get right. They are cheap and just right for a small box like this. by @truegemz18

Dado plane.
I picked up this 1/2 inch dado plane from hyperkitten.com a while back. I'm currently in the middle of a project that requires a handful of dadoes and I finally got to tuning up the plane. It didn't need much but what it did need was very crucial to getting it to actually work. This is so much faster than doing them whith a chisel!
Very impressed with how well it works.

I'd like to pick up one in 3/4 but they seem hard to find. 7/8 is very common though.
