10 YR anniversary of Church LP Re Issue!!!
⛪️💕
I moved to NYC for love and desire. I played at Baby’s Alright where Dean saw me perform, asked me if I wanted to put something out together and I said yea why not?!
The decision to record it live was bc performance is where I’ve always felt the most comfortable. in my bag. Studio recording (outside my br to be precise) with option of multiple takes wasn’t somethin I felt comfortable with yet. I love the energy of the room, the people, the suspense n divinity of the moment. Dean understood that and provided it as an option. Smart. At the time I was living with Kyp Malone (the first ex JW I’d ever met who became family soon there after), I think I was able to pay (a very low amount) of rent by this time, bc before I was squatting on his couch a lot. Kyp introduced me to a whole world of people, to Patrick Wimberly and Miles Robinson who recorded and mixed it live, and to Alix Brown who directed the video for Dreams (she really taught me how to be one with a horse, my ultimate dream horse girl). My friend Brook Sinkinson Withrow (one of my first intimate friends after running away from home to attend NC school of the arts) and her twin Megan who helped create the artwork, introduced me to Diamond Antoinette Stingily and we ran around the Brooklyn Botanical Garden being silly taking photos for the artwork. That was a fun day. Heba Kadry on mastering❣️
Church was my intro into the world, making so many connections. Thank you to everyone involved not only in the process of making this but in my life at that time period, navigating life in a way I was such a baby too.
This re issue of the LP is such a special edition, not only is it alt artwork but it also includes a cover of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Games!!! So excited for you to hear it all either again or for the first time and to continue connectin to each and every one of you lunatics.
