Fourth time working together could be the charm.
Charlie Wallace stopped by 707 to check the progress on the space for his solo upcoming exhibition. He visited the billboard in our alleyway and it’s looking great!

The upcoming exhibition entitled, The Stars Are Watching, features a new body of work by the prolific artist. Wallace is a founding member of VaultArt Studio, whose practice engages deeply with the visual language of celebrity culture and is distinguished by his large-scale, meticulously rendered paper doll compositions.

The exhibition opens on October 30th, which also happens to coincide with the gallery crawl downtown. It’s a free art show that’s all ages and we’re going to have refreshments for the public. While supplies last, of course! So, show up early! 5:30-9 in the cultural district. taken in Wood Street Galleries by @trustvisualarts

There’s a few flyers for this upcoming gig and there’s probably going to be many more. Aaron Dilloway will have a new record out on @daisrecords that’s being released for this show. There’s openings from @vaultartstudio, the closing of a great show at 820 that’s curated by @studiolizrudnick and a huge show at Space gallery curated by @donn.otters. It’s going to be a jam packed night. Gallery crawl runs from 5:30-9, with Wood street staying open until midnight for the musical night. A perfect way to ring in Halloween!

This is the last weekend to see Marianne Vitale’s On Liberty: A Summoning at SPACE Gallery in Pittsburgh. Such an amazing show. Thank you to the Trust, all the performers and, of course, the brilliant Marianne Vitale.

This work is mostly decommissioned freight cars tuned into minimalist building blocks. It is magnificent work, testament to American empire. Vitale is one of the few artists who can be deadly fucking serious and fun at the same time.

Pictures from the past gallery crawl, with the opening of Combine Harvester. Thanks to @taylorgearhart for snapping some great pictures of the crawl and openings. It was a packed house with visitors and local artists alike. It was nice to see a few past art handlers making an appearance and curating the event :)

It will be open for the October crawl as well! That’s your last chance to see it at a crawl. It will be closing that Halloween weekend!

Thanks to all those who helped install, curate, and to all those who visited the crawl. It was such a packed opening. taken in SPACE by @trustvisualarts

**opening October 30th @ SPACE Gallery**
“Public Utility Commission”

old steeple chasin lineman george washington has been unrolled and stapled up on the side of The Benedum, so the first cat is out of the bag: a new fun art show is happening.

spanning the gamut of newly or forever (often under)appreciated local favorites, professors, people whose work is in expensive museums, and luxury foreign artworks we’re still hoping won’t get stopped at an airport, this show is certain to ____, ____, and ____ you as it ___s, ___s, and ___s amidst contortable contexts, contemporaneously.

The “Public Utility Commission” welcomes you to its office, to partake of its offerings, think a bit, do some participatory politicking perhaps — with further details and invitations to follow.
(including the full artist list)

Plus, there’s a lot of other fun stuff going on down here that night, too, so, come out 🤗 Oct 30th.

With the Autumn Equinox, we arrive at the moment when the Sun crosses the Earth’s equator and the balance of night and day reach equilibrium. Night inches earlier, bit by bit, as those of us in the Northern Hemisphere glide toward the winter solstice. When the Sun dips below the horizon, a new vision of our 8-ft, gold-gilded sculpture “This Is the Body of the Sun” is born each night. Stop by Arts Landing in Downtown Pittsburgh between sunset and 10pm to experience our sculpture of Ra, the Kemetic solar deity, illuminated in its evening form.

The figure’s chest is wrapped in a 12-row hieroglyphic collar and features a hymn to Ra excerpted from the Kemetic “Book of Coming Forth By Day.” Each of its 12 lines is sculpted in raised relief, transforming the sculpture into a tactile, readable oracle.

The translation is below:

“Ascribe praise to Ra, the Lord of Heaven; the Prince of Life, Strength, and Health; Creator of the Gods. Adore ye Him in His beautiful presence in His rising in the atet boat. The beings of the heights shall worship thee, the beings of the depths shall worship thee. Thine enemy is given to the fire, the evil one hath fallen; his arms are bound, Ra hath removed his legs; the sons of impotent revolt never again shall rise up! The House of the Prince is in festival, the sound of those that rejoice is in the mighty dwelling. The Gods are rejoicing when They see Ra in His rising; His beams flood with light the countries. The majesty of this venerable God advanceth, He arriveth at the land of Manu, He illumineth the earth at His birth every day, He arriveth at His region of yesterday. Mayest Thou be at peace with me, may I see Thy beauties, may I advance upon the earth, may I crush the evil one, may I destroy Apep at his moment.”

We hope that you have a chance to (re)experience the work in this new season.
